365 SAQB tow vehicle

Thinking of buying a 365SAQB, but I'm a little concerned with towing. Will my 2012 GMC Sierra 2500HD diesel have any problems towing. It's within the limits, but getting close to the 15,800lb fifth wheel towing capacity. Any thoughts, comments, or experience.

365 SAQB tow vehicle

I pull mine with a 2012 f250 with airbags. No problems for me, but I have a Ford 😁. LOL

Hello and welcome. What is your payload and your rear axle weights? You need more than I can tow x amount of lbs. Please tell us more about your truck so we can help you make an educated decision.

You will need to check your cargo capacity to know for sure. If you have been to the scales with your truck you can subtract what it weighed from the GVWR of the truck and that will give you your available cargo capacity. If you have not been to the scales than you can look at the sticker in your drivers side door jamb that says "occupants and cargo should not exceed XXXX pounds" for a good idea of your cargo capacity.
If the total weight of the pin weight, hitch, and anything else you have in your truck is less than your cargo capacity you are good to go.
For what its worth, my 2004 Chevy 2500 had 2200lbs cargo capacity according to the sticker. A camping buddy has a 2008 2500 and according to the sticker on it he has 1900lbs of cargo capacity so there is a wide range for those truck based on package and options on it.

Looking at the specs on that trailer you will likely be around 14000 lbs (possibly more) when loaded. Figuring pin weight at 20% looks to be a pin weight of 2800 lbs loaded. Again this could be heavier. I'm guessing your going to be over on at least payload. That trailer is probably 3500 territory.

Thanks for the replies. The axle ratings are 5200lb front and 6200lb rear. It looks like my GCWR is 24,500lb so I think I'll be ok with the weight of the 365SAQB. Just worried about highway towing or steep grades. Any thoughts or experiences?

I pulled my 365 with a 2011 2500 CC LB 4x4. Pulled it great and no problems. It was close or over on payload, but still never dropped more than 2"(about the same as my current 3500) when hitched. You will get a lot of people telling you it's not possible because of payload, but these 2500's are stout. I installed airbags on mine, but never inflated them beyond 25-30psi. I honestly didn't like the way the airbags felt. They probably did help when hitting a hard rolling bump (bridge approach), but it never felt out of control without them. The 3500 is rock solid and I actually load the bed heavy when traveling distances to help smooth it out.

Can it pull it? Absolutely... Can it carry the pin weight? Absolutely.... Can it do it within the mfr specs? probably not. My 365 pin weight is around 3100# ....As has already been stated, these trucks are stout. You can go by the door jam sticker if you want, but you need to weigh your truck with you and normal occupants if you are really concerned about the specs. By the way, the 365 has the best floor plan on the market for those of us with kids. Of course, I may be a little biased

I pull one with my 06 gmc dually to be on the safe side don't like being that close to over WT dually part is for stability in strong winds.

Also to be noted, there is a big difference in stability between '11 up and prior years. If you have a the long wheelbase CC, wind is not really going to be an issue. Towed thousands miles with 2500 and never felt like tail was wagging the dog.

You are partially there with your numbers but you are missing some. What does your truck actually weigh with full tank of fuel, driver, pets and gear in it (if you don't have the hitch already then figure approx 150 lbs for fifth wheel hitch)? Take it to a cat scale to find out. When you do put the front wheels on scale pad one and rear wheels on scale pad two. Subtract your scaled rear axle weight from your gross rear axle weight. The difference is the room available for pin weight. Take the total truck weight from the scale and subtract it from the gcwr to get your adjusted towing capacity. Take the total truck weight from the scale and subtract it from the gvwr to get your available payload.

The trailer loaded weight needs to be less than the adjusted tow capacity. The loaded pin weight needs to be less than your available pin weight and within specs for the rear axle. Someone above quoted a loaded pin weight of 3100 lbs. That would barely be within specs of my 3500 once family, hitch etc are accounted for.

Thanks for all the info. I'll have to get the truck to the scales and go from there.
