It is possible something is bent, but usually is caused by the awning material not rolling up straight. This is mostly caused by the material shifting position where it is attached to the tube which causes pressure when the arm moves into its stored position.
It has happened to me with manual and electric awnings. I determine which direction the material needs to move, lessen the tension on the material, and pull the material accordingly (using a ladder and sometimes a helper). Then when it rolls up straight, I put in a screw or two to hold the material in place.
