Just bought 2016 28SGX

We just purchased a 2016 Wildcat 28SGX and one of the upgradable options was 16" wheels in place of the 15s that are stock. Does anyone know the tire size Forest River upgrades to? Dealer was of no help with this info. Secondly, we want to put the best tire on our rig and was wondering what everyone else installed. Thanks for the feedback.

I don't know what size they upgrade to anymore, but I can tell you, if you've never heard of the tire manufacturer that is on there, get 'em swapped out quickly. My Trail Express tires lasted less than 3K miles before I lost three on one trip home. Man, talk about a long day. Yikes! I now have Maxxis 8008's (I think), and so far so good.

Oh...congrats on the new digs, and welcome!

Wildcat tire upgrade

We also recently purchased a 2016 Wildcat 28' - 5th wheel. I got the upgraded tires. They are 235/80 16 inch. The brand is Castle Rock. We have 5,500 miles on them and they are holding up well. That said, it is important (and I think a good idea) to not only get the larger tires, but consider a higher weight rating... and "E" or even "F" rating. THEN, after you get it, go to a reputable tire shop and have them balanced! Believe it or not, most of the RV manufacturers do not balance their trailer tires! Also, find a place that does trailer tire alignment and have it checked. When tires fail with low miles on them, it is often due to poor alignment causing heat and irregular wear (just like on a car). The other thing to consider is an aftermarket TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System). I installed one that monitors both the trailer tire pressure and temperature. (Before a tire fails, it often can give you a warning of higher or lower temperature or pressure, due to low/high inflation, wear or damage. )

My understanding is any Wildcat that has three slide outs gets the 16" tires.

We purchased ours a couple of months ago. We have since taken it from Oklahoma City to Santa Fe/ Taos. Also a couple of in state trips.

I always check the inflation and when I stop to rest or fuel up I put my hands on the hubs and the sidewalls to check for a warm tire.

We have not had any real issues with ours yet. Just winterized it for the first time. We do enjoy it a lot.

We went to Texas Motor Speedway a couple of weeks ago and used a portable generator for power. Found out that our gen set runs a high voltage when first started but settles down to a proper voltage in about four minutes. Our Progressive EMS would not allow a circuit to our unit until the voltage was acceptable. Might want to consider one of those as well.
