I too had a Cougar with the pull out bike rack. The plastic deck is pretty flimsy, but the rack/bumper assembly is great. I pulled mine part way out, then drilled new bolt holes where it was designed to slide out. Used mine for a generator and added a 20 gallon marine gas tank, then wrapped each in aluminum tread plate. Worked great for six or seven years, 'till I traded off on a Sunseeker. Never had a problem with the thing bottoming on drives or whatever. Over all, this is the only design bike rack worth using, in that it is part of the trailer!

I will probably give it a try on our trip to FL next week. The added weight of the gen and gas tank may have help stabilize your application but will give it a try. Nat a fan of the bike in the truck bed.
