Power inverter switch

We just bought a 2020 Wildcat 290RL that has a power inverter on it to run the refrigerator. There is a switch by the stairs that is used to turn the inverter on. I am trying to learn exactly how that works. Can I turn that switch on while still connected to power when I am getting ready to travel, or do I need to wait until after I disconnect power to turn it on?

Yes, you can leave the switch on. The inverter will detect when shore power goes away and then generate 120 volts from your battery.

I sometimes leave mine on when-on shore power at a campground so if the campground looses power my fridge will remain on as the inverter will kick in automatically.

yes you can leave it on when connected to shore power. you will have a small transfer switch for you refrigerator. it may be internal to the inverter or it may be external. its purpose is to select either shore power, or inverter power, and pass one of them but not both though to the refrigerator. so if shore power is present the refrigerator will run on it. while doing this if the inverter is on it is basically in standby mode and is not providing power to the refrigerator. should shore power disappear the transfer switch will then connect to inverter power, if it is on, and pass it through to the refrigerator.

I always turn my inverter switch OFF once shore power is turned on. And last thing I do just before hitching to my Wildcat to tow is turn it on.
