( kermitvb) I was looking today on Amazon (RV lock), keypad with keys, don't you feel that if they had a master key they could still use that key on the electronic lock? Isn't the key used as a back-up anyway?

I suppose anything is possible, but the OEM keys have only a handful of masters that will let you into almost all OEM equipped RVs. That's what most of the RV sellers use to access the RVs on their lot or in for service (I've had this conversation with our local RV dealer). I guess someone who had access to the RVLock (or similar manufacturer) Log could figure out a master. However, when you put in your own 4 digit electronic code, it cannot be unlocked with a key, not even the RVLock key provided with the lock. We use the key as an "additional" level of locking...basically a deadbolt lock in addition to the electronic coded lock. That's what we use whenever we put our Fifth Wheel in storage. We have our storage compartment locks keyed with the came key (numbered by RVLock) as our electronic lock because they are convenient AND the chance of a thief having a master key to my locks is less than an OEM lock. At least that's my idea of how their products work.

RV Lock
FYI the last time our Cedar Creek went to the dealer for repairs. I forgot to furnish them with a key or the code to get in, until the day we were supposed to go pick it up. Guess what they didn't need it, they had a RV lock master key and I never use anything but the code. I personally have never locked or unlocked the RV lock with anything but the code. I do love this lock though!!

I’m very sorry this happened. It’s awful that people will do this. However, this is a great example of why us RV owners should get the right kind of insurance for our rigs and our lifestyle. I just bought a new fifth wheel and did a ton of research on insurance for my new rig. I am a former insurance adjuster and now an attorney so I know a fair amount about the insurance industry. I finally decided on Progressive as their RV policy was the best I could find and I am very pleased with the coverages I have for only $609.00 per year. I have replacement cost on my RV and on its contents (up to $3000.00). The RC on the rig is for five years during which time they will replace my RV with the exact model in the event of a total loss. After five years, they’ll pay me what I paid for the RV. It also includes $5K for roof damage (including wear and tear), $3K for pest damage, vacation interruption coverage (hotel), roadside, and some other things I can’t recall. My deductible is $500 for both comprehensive (theft like you) and collision. It’s definitely worth every penny and I’d pay more if I had to. I hope things work out for you. Be safe out there everyone.

So sorry for what happened. But , from what I see in the picture the actual damage is minimal. Have you thought about taking your rig to a good body shop. They can take the door and frame apart and work everything back into place. And you wouldn’t have to replace the decals on the door. Body shops don’t just work on cars. Again I’m sorry for what happened.

I only lock the door when underway and when we get to the campground. Never lock the storage either. There is nothing inside or out worth the damage a lock vs thief can cost.

I had the door on my 2018 Montana damaged beyond repair. I ordered the complete assembly, frame, door, screen, lock, etc for about $850 through my local dealer. I can replace it myself but I would guess it would be a ~$1,500 - $1,800 job if you had to pay someone.

When we are not in it we leave all the compartments and doors unlocked.
Nothing inside worth having body/window damage over. If they want it that bad they will get it.
The loss is actually a chance to upgrade (Look at the bright side)
Locks keep out casual thieves only.

Oh, this makes me sick. We have been burglarized 3 times. Our door looks the same as yours. All times in gated storage. Just sickening. Finally the last time the bad guys took our fire extinguisher and sprayed down the whole interior to rid it of fingerprints. What a mess! Hours of cleaning. Never fixed the door. Constant reminder to take valuables out. Sad

Need to start publishing the names of the storage facilities this stuff happens in to warn others who might be thinking of storing there.

cAnt and WOn`t
Take it to a INDEPENDENT body shop, for a 100 dollars or less they can straighten out the aluminum pop rivet a piece over the jamb, and a can of spray paint and it`s fixed. Or buy a $400.00 door and pay $300.00 in labor. may be more. It`s a camper not the White House. Good chance these clowns will be back as campers are easy pickings. I understand the violation issue that harder to get over than the repair.

Break in
Honestly I feel it’s better to leave the doors unlocked when away. If a person will enter a camper that’s not theirs when doors are not locked would surely pry a door open or break a window to steal your stuff. At least no damage from breaking in.

Thieves and thugs are always up to no good. My grandpa told me years ago.
"A lock is only good for an honest person".
I hate to see or hear that anyone has been taken advantage of. Seems there's always thiefs or thugs looking for an easy job to get their greedy hands on. Turns out, that in this day and time we're living in, was probably a person who has a drug addiction and needs quick cash.
I remember years ago, I had a truck broken into and the radio with a "detachable face plate" was the only thing that had been taken. Leaving the the main component to the radio still in the dash. As if they'd been spotted or spooked by someone else and fled the scene.
Don't get me wrong, I felt deprived and taken advantage of. Found out the next morning, they'd hit quite a bit of other vehicles in the neighborhood.
Hopefully you'll be able to get your door trim repaired at no cost and you'll be able to move on with your camping excursions, and put this behind you.

That’s interesting, I thought spending the money for a aftermarket lock would get you away from any skeleton key issues! Sooner or later someone, somewhere will put that to nefarious uses.
To the OP, and others that had to deal with this, my condolences. It is a blood pressure inducing time. Angry and violated. BTDT.
