upgrade water heater

Hi all -

I have a 2017 FR Wildcat 38MBX 5th Wheel with 6 gal water heater.

Like to see about upgrading the size to a 10 gal water heater.

Is that feasible?

I don't want a tankless water heater since we've add one on our 21 Winnebago TT installed from dealer and it was just ok - like meh - not worth it - had issues with having "unlimited" amount of hot water and such. Wont go that route again.

Now when I go on this site: https://www.rvusa.com/rv-guide/2017-...-38mbx-tr30687 it states the 5th wheel to have a 18 gal water heater - seems wrong and it is when compared to my 5th wheel being only a 6 gal tank. I do believe in my manuals, the water heater one, shows info for 4, 6 and 10 gallons.

I'm thinking I could upgrade size to the 10 gal but want to find more info 1st.

Tell us the make/model of your current water heater and we can make better suggestions.

If Suburban, they make several models that may have the same 'footprint". I think the 4 & 6 gallon are similar and the 10 & 12 gallon are similar.

You're close. All of the current 10, 12, and 16s have the same dimensions except depth. The 4-gallon (pilot light only) 6-gallon units are smaller. in width and height.

I think that's what I said?? 4 & 6 similar and 10 & 12 similar.

All moot anyway as it is an Atwood.

yea its a Atwood lol

I found last night that they make a water heater that is the XT model = its 6 gallon but is equivalent to 9 gallons and keeps same size as the 6. Still 110v and Propane heat source. We want both heat options.

Info from online sellers site:

The Atwood 90073 Gas/Electric XT Water Heater - 6 Gallon gives you the equivalent of 9 gallons of hot water in the same smaller 6 gallon size. The XT will heat up cold water to a higher temperature, then mix it with additional cold water to provide you with 50% more hot water.
Mixing is made possible through the rear mixing valve that is already installed.
Install in the same size cut-out dimensions as standard 6 gallon Atwood models.
Winterizing bypass kit is already built in.
Aluminum tank is light weight and eliminates the need for an anode rod.

We are probably gonna go this route and we don't have to cut for the increase height for the actual 10 gal water heater.
