Awning Issue

I bought a Wildwood 385FLBH Lodge several weeks ago, which is significantly bigger than any of the 5th wheels I had previously. I am currently challenged by the awning. The awning is huge and is mounted along the roof line, which is normal, except that it is nearly 20 ft off the ground. It is an old manual style open/shut (in a 2019 model) and difficult to use. There is a locking mechanism that prevents the awning being opened located about halfway up the arms, with two tabs that need to be pushed together to unlock. One of the mechanisms appears to be jammed or bound up in the locked position, and I have been unable to get it to unlock. Unfortunately these mechanisms are about 12 ft off the ground and I have to use a ladder to reach them. Any experienced recommendations for un-jamming these things? I would like to use the awning. Thank you and safe travels my friends.

The height of your rig is actually 12'8" that would put the latches you are talking about at around 5 to 7 feet which may require a ladder for some folks. Here is what you can try first make sure all tension is removed from the locking screw next to the trailer then try to lift up on the arm while pushing in on the locking devise if that doesn't work try lifting and tapping lightly with a hammer once the travel latches are free shift the awning control (upper right top of awning) to the unlock position insert your rod in the pull strap and open the awning. Good luck

Thank you for the quick response SeaDog. I will definitely try the things you suggest. It sure seems a lot taller than the heights you quote as I am nearly 6 ft and nearly everything with the awning is out of my reach. But I was only guesstimating. BTW - retired Navy OSCS 1968 - 1995, very good to meet you shipmate, and thanks again for the assistance. -Grumpy
