Bearings
Hi all! Brand new to RV'ing and these forums.
Got my RV (1998 32-foot Wildwood TT) from my grandfather, and drove it around the first time this weekend. The drivers side front wheel was very hot to the touch, so we parked it, jacked it up, and started pulling stuff apart.
The ball bearings are toast, shredded and melted all over the place.
I've been looking through the manual, and online, and cannot find a replacement bearing model number.
Any ideas what it would be, or where I can find this information?

The axle should have a ID plate on it. Look for a manufacturer there. Most likely it is Al-Ko and they have a web site. You will need the model number and serial number when you contact them.
Search the forum for Al-Ko and yu will find the web site if your axles were made by them. Nice people.

Try and pull a set of bearing out of one wheel (front and rear bearings and the seal. Take it to a auto parts distributer and see if they can match them. In some places, there are specialist dealers that deal only with bearing and can match them. That old of a trailer, I doubt if you well find part numbers. And if you did, I would be skeptic of them. AKO and Dexter are two different wheel and axles manufactures that were used on 5th wheels and neither used the same bearings. Once you find new ones, pack the wheels once a year.

Ended up taking the bearings off of another wheel, and will go bearing hunting tomorrow for all 4 wheels.

Dang it!
Maintenance, maintenance.
I pulled the races and inner / outer bearings off the trailer and headed over to O'Reilly Auto Parts. They were able to match the bearings, but finding a matching race took a while. Long story short, the bearings are great, the races kinda fit (even though it matches the bearings).
When the bearing disintegrated on the drivers front-side tire, it welded the race into the wheel hub and warped the hub. So, I'm now needing to run down a hub for this trailer. O'Reilly again?

O'rielly might be able to find one, but a better place would be a trailer place. You can order them off the internet at places like Etrailer.com too.

Alko recommends inspecting and repacking their wheel bearings every 6 months or 6000 miles, whichever comes first. This is important if you ever need any warranty work.

Bill,
On page 20, if your axles have the Ultra-Lube system, as long as you give the Zerk Fittings a pump or two every few months, the repack is an annual thing with the brake and trailer inspection.

what part of the country are you in? maybe someone can reccomend a trailer place near you. in Houston we have "Trailer wheel and frame", "Husky" truck/trailer parts, etc, they both sell hubs.

I'm in Lubbock, TX - not a mecca of RV'ing, needless to say. I doubt it's a warranty issue, with the trailer being almost 13 years old at this point, though if it's warrantied that long, that would be great.
