Cold weather camping in ‘21 Wildwood FSX 178BHSKX

I have a question about winter camping in my new camper. There is “underpinning” underneath the camper itself. I’ve been told by the dealer that I should not keep water in the tank while I’m camping and then by the service department at the same dealer that as long as the heater is running in the camper itself, the under section where the tanks are at is heated as well. Can anybody give me any direction?

First what do you call cold weather camping? it takes some time for water to freeze in tanks and and the piping if it is not below freezing day and night. With that said you heating ducts run thru the underbelly and give off heat and will keep things thawed provided you use the furnace and not space heaters.

Hey there, thanks for the quick reply. Right now, just midwest camping so Central Indiana in Southern Indiana and Southern Illinois.It is absolutely my intent to use the heater. And like I said in the post, there is an underpinning that runs across the bottom of my camper but I don’t know if that’s just plastic or if there’s any insulation quality to it at all.

Most likely the "underpinning" is simply Coroplast (corregated plastic). Running the furnace will help keep that area from freezing in mildly cold conditions. Very cold weather especially with wind will be a problem. Also the exposed portions of your dump valves will freeze. One word of caution; running the furnace means the propane furnace with ducted heat. Aux heaters in the camper will not heat the lower portion.

Thank you for the reply. How can I tell if it’s ducted heating without pulling that coroplast off? I know the air conditioner is on the ceiling, and the furnace is separate from that. I know my air conditioner is electric and the furnace is propane.

Is there a way to protect the dump valves?

I have the same camper. There isn't ductwork in ours. Unless you have vents that I don't have. The heat just comes out of the top of the furnace if your heat comes out in floor registers than yours is ducted

So if it’s not ducted, how would I go about making sure it’s heated enough not to freeze? Any ideas?

what is your defintion of cold weather? dont want to knock my wildwood camper but if its under freezing for more then a few hours i would worry about damage without serious ready ness

The '21 has Coroplast? My '20 has (what looks like) a black plastic tarp as an underbelly.
