Keep Entry Door Open When Awning Out

Has anyone figured out how to keep the entry door open when the awning is out? I went with a 6 in metal door latch but that is not long enough. 2018 230bhxl wildwood.

Reading your title and the part about the six inch door holder what are you saying? I'm having a hard time figuring out the problem.

When we have the awning out, the door holder does not reach from the TT to the door. So no way to keep the door from closing when the wind blows.

If I'm reading you correctly you have your awning lowered so that the door hits the awning material if you try to open it correct? There two things you can do some folks put a roller on the top edge of the door so the it doesn't wear on the awning material when opening or simply rase you awning a little and open the door and latch it.

The problem is not the door hitting the awning on top, it is the door hits the metal braces for the awning towards the bottom and cannot get the latch to reach far enough to hold the door open.

I use a mini bungee clipped to the door edge and wrapped around the extended awning arm.

The OP has a trailer that was designed by someone that has obviously never been camping. The door is way too close the awning arms.

Too simple. Don't you know that you need something more expensive and complex. After all, it is an RV and while bungee's are effective they just don't -------- look right.

OK now I understand what you were talking about as I look at the picture. There are 8" and longer door holders available or you can move the door holder closer to the hinge part of the door with would allow for it to be latched. I hope this helps.

I've tried them. The problem ends up being the force that can be put on the door even in a light breeze. The plastic ones broke, the metal ones would pull the screws out as there was not much to attach them to on our Rockwood. 1/8" Luan behind the filon, and the door was made of paper I think.



Rockwood's solution was to have a hydraulic shock on the door that would only allow it to open to a 90 degree angle. That was the first ting I removed and another fine example of RV design. The bungee works.

Use some magnets,one on the door and one on the awning arms. They work great

Thanks for all suggestions. Seems to me the bungee cord is the way to go. I will try the magnets also. This is really a somewhat major manufacturing flaw.

I had the same problem with my 17RBXL. I use a short bungee wrapped around the awning arm at the height of the door latch. I hook it snugly but not so tight it's difficult to remove. This solution has worked GREAT for two seasons so far.

I don’t know if I would call it a flaw, my Coachmen is the same, my door will only open 90 degrees. There are lot and lots of RV with the same design. Even with the awning in mine will still only open 90 degrees

I keep several rolls of jute twine for tieing different things and holding the door open. Every time I go to the hardware store and they're on sale for a dollar i'll get a couple of rolls. I put a short piece of a pool noodle on the awning arm where the door touches. I then put a loop in one end of a piece of the twine and put it around the door inside handle that is fixed. Then tie the other end to the awning arm to hold the door tight against it.
I also put a cut pool noodle on the lower arms of the awning to keep from banging my head - it has happened a few times.
