replacing fridge
have a wildwood x lite 201bhxl. the fridge only runs on electric. when no hook up runs on 12v. kills the battery in about 1 1/2 days. wondering if it's worth replacing it with a propane/electric one. has anyone done that?

In terms of worth it or not that is sort of a call you have to make. with that said before you figure the total cost of replacing you will need to ensure that the rig has propane available which if not would add to the cost. Might be less hassle and cost effective to invest in a small generator to satisfy your dry camping needs.

thanks SeaDog, you think a 2000w generator would be enough to charge a 12v 100ah battery?

That would easily run your converter and charge your battery and allow you to run most things in your rig.

If you have the room to put one, or can modify space for one, it would really help to add another battery in parallel with the one you have. A 100 Amp, 12v battery only has about 50 amps, or 600 watts available until battery capacity drops to 50%, about 12.1 volts. Utilizing the battery past this point will shorten its like drastically. That's. not many hours of use.
An even better solution is to use two 6 volt golf cart batteries like the Trojan T-105, hooked in series to give you 12 volts. This would give you about 1400 watts of energy use before requiring a recharge.
Note that a lead acid battery that is pulled down to 12.1 volts or less will require a lengthy charge to get back to full capacity. You may get to 90% in a couple hours but to get to 100% may take an all day charge. A 2000 watt quiet inverter generator would add immensely to a comfortable camping experience.

looking at rv trader, your rig appears to already have a Propane refrigerator in it.
I don't think its a new 12v compressor refrigerator is it?
what kind of battery do you have?
24 series is around 75amp hours
27 series is around 90 amp hours
(your not supposed to drain a battery past 50%)
but here is your times below
if you leave the rig sit unplugged I bet you have 1 amp draw on the battery still with your CO and Propane detectors even with refreg off.
battery size - 50% dead, - total Dead
24 series - 37.5 hours- 75 hours
27 series - 45 hours - 90 hours
add 3 amps for Propane refreg to run (plus 1 amp for CO/Propane detector load = 4 amp)
24 series - 9.3 hours- 18.75 hours
27 series - 11.25 hours - 22.5 hours
This don't include any lights or water pump load.
Maybe the answer is to add more battery?
or some solar?
(your load would require about 200w of solar)
or just run that generator to charge the batteries you got.

the fridge is definitely electric only. I do plan on getting another battery next year....and a generator. the battery is 27 series. I will connect the two together. with that and a generator I hope to be ok.

You may not fit two group 27 batteries without some modifications. The battery framework on the A-frame, is usually sized for two group 24/6v GC2 batteries.
I suggest that you get two 6v golf cart batteries and a 2000w inverter generator. Unless you want to run the a/c, then you'll need a bigger inverter generator or install a Micro Air Easy Start unit.

Your 12v batteries are most likely the cheapest 12v dual purpose marine batteries the dealer could find. These are NOT true deep cycle batteries, like 6v golf cart batteries are.
I'll bet your battery has a Cold Cranking Amps rating. The rating is for starting engines, which your trailer doesn't have.
6v golf cart batteries are designed better for the type of usage a RV needs.

Are you sure that group 27 battery is a TRUE deep cycle? True deep cycle 12v batteries aren't common.
Can you post a pic of it? Or brand and model number.

Well, that's different. I assumed you were talking about lead acid batteries, since you didn't mention AGM.
All I know about AGM is that they are better than lead acid but they're too expensive for me.

typically a 6v golf cart battery is a better deep cycle than the multi purpose 12v marines ones.
Most 27 series 12v batteries are rated at 90amp hour.
If you put Two 12v batteries together (parallel) you get 12V @ 180ah
Most golf card 6v batteries are rated at around 230amp hour
If you put two 6v batteries together (series) you get 12V @ 230 ah.
be careful, lots of golf cart batteries are now 8v.
golf cart batteries are taller.
If you guy AGM you don't a have to add water.
