Running lights

I've seen people camping with running lights on. I have 2003 Wildwood anyone know how it's done? I tried the trick with fuse in 3&4 pin doesn't work. Any ideas?

3 & 4 are the correct pins—the two immediately below the tab that fits into the notch.

Is your fuse good? Did you try another fuse?

You have to make sure that the blades of the fuse touch both contacts inside the 7-way connector.

Sticking an ATC/ATO fuse into A & B terminals is not ideal. The fuse spades are horizontal, but the terminals on the cord are canted. Often times the two will not mate (make contact), or the fuse gets twisted and snaps the spades loose from the fusible link. Use a inline fuse holder and crimp spade connectors on the ends of the wires.

One other important thing: Make sure you have 12V on terminal 4.

Most everyone I know just uses a standard size flat fuse in the top of the 7way (slots 3 and 4). Some just a wire, as it doesn't have to be a fuse.
The 'trick' gets old fast

I just use a #12 wire with 2 male spades crimped on. My total amp draw with all LED running lights is about 0.4 amps. No fuse required. Total cost: $0.50 in materials, and about 90 seconds of labor, LOL.

No real reason to do it except to have fun and create an ambience. Usually around here everyone does it during Halloween when the kids are going around the campground Trick-or-Treating.

Have a great time with it!!

An automotive flasher between the pins will make the lights flash!
And yes... it gets old quick.

Test for 12v on pin #4 with a multimeter or 12v test light.

With all that said, you probably don't have 12V on connector 4.

Not much use for it here in Alaska with our daylight hours during camping season, but it does come in handy for checking lights without the TV.

I always recommend that RVers use a short loop of insulated 12 awg solid wire to keep it simple. Makes it easier for neighbors to jerk it out while the guy desiring lights is snoozing.

AS D W suggests, I have used a loop to test running lights after Wildcat service made a skirt repair that affected a couple of side lights.

Why would you you need all those lights on anyway?

Not everybody is in a campground, and not everyone who does it is a jerk. Some folks are real touchy though.....
