Any reason not to seal roof seams with Eternabond tape?

I had a class C RV for the past 6 years and traded it on a trailer this year. 4.5 years ago I used Eternabond tape on every seam on the roof of the RV. It had a fiberglass roof instead of a rubber roof if that matters. The tape was 4.5 years old when I sold the RV and except for losing a little sheen it looked as good as the day I put it on. I never lost sleep thinking any of those seams would ever leak.

So, is there any reason not to do that again on my new trailer?

I asked the "Service Manager" where I bought my camper almost the same question. His only reply was "I don't recommend it because Eternabond is forever."

Wasn't much help and he didn't want to explain. I to would like to hear what others have to recommend.

That is exactly why I want to use it.

There is an RV repair guy on YouTube that doesn't recommend it. But his video on it was more about covering up stuff that should be repaired. I left a question about using it to prevent leaks rather than cover up issues but he never responded.

Too bad factory installed roofs and seams don’t claim the same “xxxx is forever”.

Nothing is forever.

It can be removed if needed with a heat gun and a little patience. They even give you the instructions on their website.

I see absolutely no reason to not put it on a new trailer.

You have to ask? It's all about the $$.

Could you imagine the cost of a "Lifetime RV"??

Service people don't like it because you fixed it forever.
I had problems with the rear cap and front cap. After I put Interbond on never had a problem after.
I won't leave home without it!

Eternabond

Just curious, what width Eternabond is best to use in sealing roof seams, protecting areas around vents, skylights, etc?

I like the idea of this. My awning is only 5 years old and starting to get holes and cracks in it. O might put this tape on both sides of it just to make it last longer.

Generally I find 4 inch eternabond is most useful but I used 6 inch on my front seam because of the dicor it had to cover. I used 4 inch on all the side seams and for most of the items on the roof (including the flexible solar panels and the underlay beneath them) but 6 inch with a cut out to surround the TV aerial base. (I used a bit of 4 inch on my about to be replaced awning).
All that is to say I carry 4 inch as the most useful size for fixes.

If memory serves me right I think I used 4"
I did it on a very warm day and used a roller to get a nice result. Mind you this was the front and rear caps of a motor home.
You may not need that width for seems.

I used 4" for everything on the RV but had to double up on the front and rear end cap seams. So this time I will go with 6" on the front and rear caps and 4" for the skylights and other areas.

Considering using eternabond. Did anyone remove the old sealant or just give it a thorough cleaning?

I removed as much old dicor as I could so the tape would lay down flat. Working in the sun, it came up easy with a plastic putty knife.

Leave it, clean it, apply the tape (prime if you want) and done.

I used 2, 3 and 4 inch depending on what I needed to do... I know everyone says more is better, but more is not always necessary when even a little does not lift...

My Eternabond install write up over old Dicor done 5+ years ago... still good after inspection 2 months ago

What's the average time it lasts? I've heard a lot of people comment that after five years it still looks like new. Is 10 years unheard of?

Nope, EternaBond warranties it for 10 years. I did my roof seams 8 years ago and it still looks new.
