First Travel Trailer Buying Experience

My Wife and I ordered a Flagstaff Micro Lite 25 FKS the first of January and were told it would be 8-10 weeks for delivery. After 10 weeks and no Trailer I called the Dealership to check on our Trailer. The Dealership called Flagstaff and they told them that due to suppliers and production that it would probably be May before delivery. I just hope things get back to normal and we get our Trailer before Summer.

Same experience most people are having. If your order was actually placed by the dealer to the factory in the first part of January, there is a good chance you will get it May. I ordered a trailer from a dealer in February and then found out they waited three weeks to actually order the trailer from the factory. Luckily, I found a trailer in stock at a dealer only 450 miles away that we really liked, so we went to that dealer to buy it and cancelled the order with the original dealer.

There is no 'normal' anymore.

People are using the COVID excuse whether it is justified for them or not.
There is no question many manufacturers/businesses were hit hard by the pandemic.
Whatever the outcome moving forward, it will be what it is. Times have changed.

Thanks everyone for the replies, and my wife and I hope for a May delivery. We had a 30 amp power outlet installed on our garage so I guess our first camping experience will be in our yard.

Please double check that the 30 amp power outlet installed on your garage was wired correctly for RV use. Some electricians are not familiar with RV wiring and will wire the 30 amp outlet for 220 volts and not 110.

I purchased a 30 amp rv receptacle from Lowes as well as a 30 amp breaker and correct #10 wiring. I then had a contractor from our church to install it properly. we have already purchased some accessories that we will need including a surge protector which I plugged into the receptacle and it tested ok.

Driveway camping is good......it quickly shows you what you forgot to bring with you from the house.

If you can't find one on a lot, dealers are being told by the manufacturers now to expect a 4 to 6 month delivery on ordered units. That estimate will likely get longer in the upcoming weeks. So, it appears a May delivery is about right for one ordered in January.

Unfortunately, manufacturers are experiencing severe shortages of raw materials. Insulation and foam are highly constrained right now, so there's nothing to put in the walls and floors to insulate, nor the padding to make chairs, sofa's and beds. Add in the other items that are backordered now such as air conditioners, appliances, water heaters, furnaces, etc. There are thousands of partially built units just sitting on assembly lines waiting on the raw materials and other backordered parts that're needed to complete the builds.

Oh yeah, then there's the never ending demand for RV's right now. From what I heard from a dealer, Keystone has a job book of over 9,000 units to build that were ordered, just for the Cougar brand alone.

Check back with your dealer for a delivery date periodically. If they come back to you with any dates after May, make sure they will price protect your purchase. This dealer I heard from said manufacturers are hiking up prices across the board by as much as 8% on June 1st. And, if you're purchase agreement with the dealer is not price protected, they'll likely pass the price increase thru to you if they do not ship and deliver by that date.

I think I just watched Josh the RV nerd say these exact same things.

Call and speak to any good, truthful dealer about this subject and they'll all say the same thing.

We had a licensed electrician install our 30 amp outlet. He knew it was for a trailer. First time I plugged in the EMS it showed reversed polarity. So thankful I checked before plugging in trailer!

Even though the contractor checked the current with his meter and it tested ok I am glad that I had the surge protector to check it with as well. My wife and I are watching lots of videos to learn all that we can before we get our Travel Trailer.

My brother had his licensed electrician install a 30 amp plug in a water tight housing for me at his mountain home. Polarity was correct, but it was installed upside down.
