Freshwater Tank Support 2020 Microlite 21ds

I will preface this by saying that I boondock or remote camp 99% of the time (my closest neighbor can usually be seen through my binoculars). As such, I carry a full tank of Water everywhere I go.

Although I have three angle iron supports for my freshwater tank, it develops a serious "belly" that sags down in between when full. Also, the tank material is surprisingly thin. I would say less than an 1/8". As I'm considering how to address this in terms of adding support, I discovered what appears to be sharp welding slag that was eating away at one corner of the tank.

I smooth out the angle iron. However, I'm seriously thinking about replacing the tank given the type of camping I do. I'm considering replacing with the brand Recpro as the walls of their tanks are 1/4" thick.

Stay tuned as I update this thread on what I ultimately do.

Take care!Click image for larger version

Lots of good reading in these FR forum threads.

Some folks have put a 1/2" thick PVC board above the unistruts to help distribute the weight of water in the tank.

I have done the unistrut modification.

Also, the search box at the top right of this page will be your friend.

Hope this helps!

Update on adding support should I decide to keep the existing tank:

1. PVC or any other type of board will not work as the tank is fitted tightly against the floor of the trailer. As such, I have roughly 1/8 of an inch to play with, which is obviously not enough to provide any kind of meaningful support.

2. Super strut will not work at least, I beam to I beam, because the angle iron supports would push down not allowing contact to the trailers I-beam.

What is possible is reinforcing the existing angle iron by welding cross pieces. This is good news for me as I have a wire feed welder that can do the job.

Nevertheless, I'm still considering replacing the tank altogether.

Stay tuned!
