I live in Canada's banana belt and just for piece of mind blow out all lines followed by a few litres of plumbing antifreeze. Once I see pink coming out of every faucet, shower and toilette I can sleep at night and not worry about what is going on out in my trailer during the winter months. I have noticed that after blowing the lines I see a lot of clear water that appears before the pink arrives. Low point drains even let some clear drop before the antifreeze shows up. I think it is cheap insurance.

Canada has a banana belt? What kind of bananas? They must be very tough bananas.

12 degrees F is a killer. Those who don't winterize will regret.

Here's the surface temperature forecast for Monday morning, February 15. The temp/color scale is at the bottom of the image. Lots of record breaking low temps in Texas early next week....

Winterize? YES

They have changed the forecast and it's now supposed to get down to FIVE DEGREES by Monday. ANY water left in the lines, ptraps, etc. will freeze and there may not be enough expansion room to prevent damage.

This is not a normal weather pattern for Texas. Last time we had a cold front with temperatures this low... for this long... plumbers were kept busy for months. An rv needs to be winterized in this weather.

I have family in Ames. Unfortunately the arctic cold airmass will remain over Iowa at least through the early part of next week. Most unusual.

YEP! I went ahead and winterized it with some antifreeze, drained the water heater, should be fine...

Just winterize it. $10 in RV antifreeze and 20 minutes of your time is is well worth it to prevent any potential problems and give you peace of mind.

Have consider space heaters in your basement/storage tank area and leaving quarters for very cold day/nights.

A friend of mine in OK city OK had a water line freeze today. He has never had it freeze before, and it has been plenty cold there at times. If it hasn't been winterized yet, Good luck.

I always winterize no matter where I stay. It only takes one time for some left over water in a joint to crack the joint. You may not know for a while, days, months, years but then all of a sudden you have a leak. The leak will start while under pressure and you can run gallons from your water hook up until you discover the problem and turn off the water. I had a person next to me on a nice day and while he was out that day his pipe started leaking and made a mess for him to clean up, going into the under carriage, cutting out floors to find and fix the problem. Anything below 32F and this can happen. I never take the chance. It is too easy to winterize and be safe.

Too late

I'm afraid I blew it. Just returned from a 22day journey and was going to go again in March. I live in Austin and didn't expect this weather. I have a little 1000 watt heater in my 32ft Lexington and turned on my arctic heaters. I turned on the water and nothing came out. I'm going to have a problem next week when this is over? I'm a newbie and of course I get the worst storm ever. Where should I look for leaks next week?

You might be able to save it if you get heat going in time. It usually takes a hard freeze to crack a fitting, and the PEX tubing can take some stress from expansion. Crank up the furnace, uncork the low point drains and open the faucets. Use a heat gun on the low points to free them up. propane is much cheaper than replacing a bunch of material.

Sorry for your problem but, maybe you will be ok. Keep the heat on, open cabinet doors in the unit, hang a drop light, with a 75 watt bulb to add heat, in the water closet outside area and wait. DO NOT turn on the water until there has been sufficient time to thaw, leave an ice cube in a bowl in the sink and wait for it to melt then try the water. Open all taps and turn on the water from the outside slowly, not full pressure. A couple pounds of pressure will give you trickles in your sinks and then slowly check all faucets. You can also look for links for winter camping. These sites will have ideas on how to keep your coach working in freezing temperatures. You will not know if anything is broken or cracked until it leaks. With all the water back on and the faucets closed wait and listen to hear if you have any water running and go find out where it is. You can survive this without a problem, I wish you success.

Oh, are you sure it is not just the outside supply hose that is frozen? I had this happen years ago in Ft Worth, my coach was fine.
