Water Filter placement

Trying to be polite but in what universe is putting the water filter canister on the front wall of a 5th wheel underbelly a good idea. Whether you use it or not, you still have to drain it before winterizing. That means removing at least half of the stuff you have stored there so that you can crawl in and attempt to unscrew it while assuming various contortionist positions.

Is there an option for bypassing it??? Looking for suggestions.

Not sure why the picture is sideways. Could have been standing on my head when taking it.

Lots of people remove their RV water filters and just use one that screws onto the water hose (either the hose going to the city water fitting, or the hose that is used to fill the fresh water tank.

Until the software running this site gets upgraded, you must only submit pictures holding the phone so the "shutter button" is on the right. (See the red line in my sig below.)

Bypass it by removing the two hoses and get a 'nipple' or short piece of PVC pipe and put it place of the filter.

Thanks. I'll work on bypassing it.

Geez, one winterizes the RV once a year. Yet one uses the RV multiple times a year. Wouldn't the confidence in reasonably clean water and not having foreign materials in the system have any value? I seem to think so.

For starters since I live in IA I winterize twice a year. We leave to go south after freezing weather has arrived and come back before it has ended. And each time you de-winterize you also need to access the canister.

The issue is access to the canister whether you are winterizing (or de-winterizing) or simply changing the filter. Whether or not to use a filter was never an issue.

i feel for you! they put those filters in many inaccessible locations, but yours was new to me.

actually we go through about 3 winterize cycles per season. we live up in the mountains where it freezes but we go with our camping club each month down to lower elevations where we use the trailer. then back up home. luckily our water filter is in a wet bay where it is easily accessed.

many people have removed that filter and put a short nipple across the two fittings. then they use an external filter on the water hose. if would be very tempted to do that if i had problems accessing my filter. you can get any type / quality filter that you want that will attach to the water hose.
