Never had a problem either, I lay the bars across the a-frame behind the battery and set the hitch on the ground behind the axles. Along with a whole bunch of stuff that is a heck of a lot lighter to carry off and much easier to sell. Never had anything stolen from a campground. ever.

This was just on the news today. Someone is not storing theirs properly.

I made a wooden box that fits the bars. It can stay in the back of the truck box or in the storage compartment and not get grease on anything. And I have a wood baracade across the back of the truck box do it does not come flying through the box on a front end collision. I did not put them inside an SUV when we had one.

heres a good reason not to leave your hitch on your truck. This was in our paper today.

We put ours in the storage compartment it’s safe and out of the way, ever walked into one on the back of a truck in the dark??

I leave ours locked in the trailer receiver and put the bars in the passthrough. Haven't had a problem at any campground, though.

I guess I am more trusting than most. I just store the hitch under the tongue on the trailer and leave the bars on the mounts. No way am I going to leave the hitch weight on the truck and definitely not sticking out of the receiver, waiting for my shins. Been camping in lots of campgrounds for 5 years and have not lost anything yet.
Never had a problem...got away with it for five years...

Never say never...maybe the next campout you won't be so lucky!

Weird happenings in campgrounds are getting worse every day!

While in a state campground around 13 years ago we went out for a drive and came back to the campground to discover our camp stove and four chairs missing.

Thought we were safe...guess not!

At least I had my WD stuff locked up in the cubbies...that was about $1000 worth of stuff!

And I did come back with a good photo...

With my old system we just did like a lot of the others here and lay them across the A-frame and hitch underneath it. With the new 4 point I will hang the bars like Velosprout's picture above and probably put the hitch in the front compartment to keep it out of the weather.

You seem to have a problem with the “say it once and let it go” rule on these forums. Please just let it go and stop trying to tell people they’re doing something wrong.

I do kind of like where the hitch is sitting in the second post.
Kiss, keep it simple stupid. I really don't mean the stupid part but it is the saying.

So are the bolts for the angle drilled thru the web frame, hard to see from the picture.

no, the frame is not drilled, just clamped onto by the angle iron, ... on the back side of the bracket is a single bolt with large washer, to also clamp on that side of the frame, ... makes it easy to slide the bracket to wherever is best for your use and then clamp it to the frame, ...

Keep it simple as can be. When on the road, the shank stays locked to the receiver with ball covered. Torsion bars get stored in the pass-thru with greased ends inside fiberglass reinforced plastic bags from Tractor Supply. In the off season everything gets stored in the pass-thru.

As lousy it would be, loss of your propane tanks or batteries won't strand you in a campground like the loss of hitch components. Keep them secure.

now there's a place for it, where it can be locked up if you want, ... not on the ground in the dirt under the trailer, or taking up space in the truck bed or even left in the truck receiver just waiting to jump out and kick you or someone else in the shins(I think all hitches love to do that), ...

since we have the same hitch, you might be interested in another idea that has proven to be better than I expected, ... I don't want to hijack this thread, so no pic just link, ... see post #14 for finished product,

I just hang the bars and friction bar on two ladder hooks suspended from the battery box supports on A Frame. Almost out of site. I leave the hitch in the receiver for weekend trips, long trips beneath the front of trailer. If it’s stolen guess I just continue camping until I can replace it!
