2019 mini lite 2104s / how thick can Murphy bed mattress be ?

I want a new mattress for my 2019. 2104s model

Factory mattress is a michiana mattress FMS4101. Short queen 60x74

It appears to be about 6 inches thick. I would love to get a thicker mattress. Would a 7, 8 inch mattress fit when Murphy bed is up?

I contacted forest River tech support and they would only say to use what they supplied. Couldn’t tell me if an extra inch thickness would work, or 2 inches more.

Anyone know - that may have replaced the factory mattress with a thicker one ?

Thanks

I have a 3" foam topper on my factory mattress and it still stores upright with ease.

A fitted sheet for 10" mattress just fits.

Wow… I would never have thought you could add 3 inches on top of the mattress - and it would fit

Thank you

You’ll be fine up to 10”.

We used a 3" memory foam topper. It fits with the bed closed just fine, however the head of the mattress now catches just a little bit when opening the bed. The foam top will give, and the bed will open. If it were a firmer mattress, maybe there'd be some trouble. I've been meaning to see if I can trim up the front for a little more clearance.

Btw, the heated mattress still works with the topper, it just takes longer for the heat to soak through. We are quite happy with the topper comfort on top of the terrible factory mattress. I'm cheap, so I gambled on a cheap topper rather than a more expensive new mattress. This time I won, but that's not always the case!

Not sure if it's the same as our 2020 but we have a 8 inch foam mattress with a 4 inch and 3 inch convoluted for a total of 15 inches. Yes it's kind of crazy thick, actually a little hard to climb up on, lol.

We replaced our mattress with a 10" Zinus. It kept hitting the headboard when we tried to drop the platform. We had to pull the mattress up while it was still inclined toward the front so the front edge would clear the headboard. It wasn't easy.

We switched the 10" for an 8". It works as easily as the original and there's no difference in comfort that I can tell. The physical difference between the 8" and 10" is 1.5" of base foam and 0.5" of softer foam in the middle. So, 0.5" of foam that matters.

We did the same thing and it made a big difference.

I have a 3 inch topper also. I just pull the foam a little bit away from the front. It still catches slightly but only at the curve.

I added the topper as well. Don't forget, the topper will compress a lot, so folding it up is not an issue. The stock mattress is very light too, other mattresses may be much heavier when trying to keep overall weight in check.

It was designed by Torquemada.
