2608BS Review

We're on our third trip with our 2019 Rockwood 2608BS.

So gar, this trailer has performed flawlessly and we could not be happier.

We have tent camped, we've had a pop up (Rockwood high wall), we've had another brand of travel trailer, and then we went back to tent camping with a Jeep and off road trailer so we have a little experience!

Our kids are now grown so we were looking for something for just the two of us that could handle short and long trips and something we could be comfortable with inside and out.

We looked at several dealerships and so many floorplans both in person and online.

The 2608 sold itself the second we stepped inside.

The addition of a dual reclining loveseat in place of the sofa made this floor perfect for us.

It's raining outside now and I am comfortable inside like I never was in our previous campers.

Every system on the 2608 has worked perfectly and I haven't found a single issue. We've tested everything.

The fireplace is awesome and will heat the camper saving valuable propane! I'm impressed with it's performance and the ambiance is just fun.

The liveability of this floorplan is amazing.

I'll be glad to answer any questions if you are interested in this model.

We have the 2608BSD and have the same to say about it. No issues and the floor plan works for us. We had the 2608WS and always talked about how it could have been better. We think Rockwood read our minds because the new layout was exactly what we wanted to change. Our only small problem is location(number) of electrical outlets but that is an easy fix. After many TTs we may have a keeper or until the next RV show,

My wife and I are very interested in this model. The only thing that gives me pause is the hitch weight. Has anyone weighed your camper? I'm curios if Rockwood's numbers are high, low or spot on. I have a 2017 F-150 and I'm afraid of exceeding the payload and max tounge weight. Obviously a lot depends on how it's loaded. We typically travel pretty light. Are people towing this camper with 3/4 ton trucks? Thanks in advance for any info you can share.

Loaded for our last trip, the tongue weight came in at 945 tongue on 7150 trailer(13%). Have not weighed with trailer empty, so don't know how close the "advertised" weight is on it. I feel the real world weights are more informative.

Thanks for the info. I agree that real world weights are better. We're just trying to make sure we don't get in over our heads if we purchase this camper and unfortunately the info available from manufacturers isn't always transparent. Were you hauling any water in your tanks on that trip or was it mostly dry goods? Unfortunately many of the state campgrounds here in the PA/NY area don't have full hookups so hauling water into camp is a common practice.

We really like the 2608bs. We walked through the Flagstaff equivalent at the RV show last week here in Pittsburgh and were amazed by the space and layout. Plenty of great features too.

We carry 1/2 tank of fresh for things that might come up. We also carry a few gallons in each black/grey holding tank to help prevent any pyramids or other stickies. If we think we might need to have a full water tank we fill when we get in the area. We never travel distance with full tanks(Just my preference).

Thanks again for the info. I think we feel comfortable enough with the weights to move forward with purchasing.

I've towed our 2608 from one end of NC to the other (mountains to the beach).

There's NO WAY I would would pull this camper with a 1/2 ton truck.

Just my .02

Rockwoods hitch number is dry, so it's automatically low. Until it can be weighed ready-to-camp, you should figure about 12-13% of the GVWR.

Per FR's website, the GVWR is 6608 lbs UVW + 2188 lbs CCC = 6796 lbs GVWR.

So assume TW to be about 1055-1143 lbs. Don't forget to add 75-100 lbs for your WDH.

I think the design of the rockwoods lends to a higher tongue weight. It's the trade off for having more space because of the steeply sloped front wall and window on the front.

We were looking at a 2609WS. Until I went with a new 150. No way I'd tow that, or the 2608 with a 1/2 ton truck. Every trailer we looked at from every manufacturer had a higher tongue weight than advertised. Some as much as 150 pounds higher. It won't be hard to get to the 1100 pound range on tongue weight. Put me firmly in the weight police category.

While some speculate on the numbers, mine are from real life. The weights were done on a CAT scale(multiple times) and a sureline for tongue. My numbers are below the payload, axle front / back and my total combined is below the sticker. My WDH is dialed in to 1/4" loaded/unloaded on the front. I have pulled it through 11 different states and have no problem with acceleration, sway, braking, hill climbing or downhill.
I drive a 06 Durango with 5.7 Hemi, 4.10 rear-end(mod) and LT tires; basically a 1/2 ton PU.

We have the 2016 RW 2703WS which is very similar to the 2608BS in many ways. We have also been VERY satisfied with the build quality and reliability. The tongue weight on that unit was roughly 1,100lbs when loaded. We travel with 1/3 tank of fresh. We pulledthis with an F150 EB for about 2 1/2 years and it was at the limits of the truck no doubt but I was always very mindful of that and loaded up with that in mind. We now have a 2016 F250 6.2l gasser and it tows this unit like butter. Smooth and no payload worries anymore.

Bottom line is that we love this unit.

Question Many thanks!!

Thanks to you all for your reviews of the 2608BS!! Our Roo was just totaled by our ins.co. and, in looking at replacements, we came across this model and FELL IN LOVE!! Our local dealer happens to have a 2019 that we've walked thru and - yup, we were right. It would be PERFECT for us!! Now, we just need to wrap up the loose ends on the Roo and make the move!!

Anything specific that we should be aware of, specific to any of the components of the 2608BS ????

Be certain the doors are open all the way before lowering or raising steps.
Enjoy!

Congrats on the 2608 and sorry about the Roo.

As FROtow says, make sure the doors are WIDE open before deploying or raising steps.

I'll add to make sure the bedroom door is fully closed before bringing in or extending slide #1.

Ours has been perfect now for many miles and many nights of happy camping. I hope the 2608 does the same for you.

Agree with both points about doors in and out.
Also, found the duct opening on the wall and on the ceiling by the front door should be rotated to prevent blowing directly on thermostat; to prevent false readings. Might also want to cover door window with reflectix to lower heat transfer into the same area.

Rockwood 2608BS(D)

Glad to hear the 2608BS(D) has met your expectations!

We too just (ordered) this model (white exterior) after looking around for quite some time at other brands and floor plans. Upgrade from our KZ Sportsman Classic 190.

We have some friends who tow a Rockwood 8329SS with an F-150, 3.5L EcoBoost and that trailer is 1000lbs heavier than the 2608BS(D). They’ve towed it across the country many times and live in Colorado.

We have a new 2019 F-150 w/3.5L EcoBoost, Max Tow Package, 3.55 ratio, 36 gallon tank and will be using a Husky Center Line WD with this unit. The payload sticker on the truck is 1600lbs, so with two passengers and a dog (only, nothing in the 5.5’ bed) we should have anywhere from 440-220lbs of payload to spare depending on whether we have it at GVWR (~8,800lbs). 90% of the time we expect the trailer to be around 7600lbs since we don’t often carry much fresh water where we’re camping and always dump the tanks before hitting the road.

We are on the East Coast as well and will pickup in 8-10 weeks. We’ll have to see how she tows since I didn’t want a 3/4 (F-250) ton truck for everyday use.
