5th wheel Tripod?

Purchased our first 5th wheel, 2020 wildwood ultra lite 2896 mb. I’ve seen about 50/50 mix of people using a tripod. Needed?

When we had our 5th wheel we bought a tripod thinking it would stabilize the trailer. I never noticed any difference with or without the tripod. It was kind of a pain to lug around and set up so after awhile we stopped using it.

If you're going to spend money on stabilization ... go with JT Stabilizers or similar product. They are pretty easy to install and work way better than a king pin tripod. Tripods are sorta heavy, bulky, take up storage or bed space, and don't work well on very un-level sites. Most people that have grown weary of packing them around and have decided not to use them anymore, can barely give them away (at least in our camping arena). If you feel the need to try a tripod, used ones can be had for less than $25 as people just want to get rid of them.

For many years now my king pin tripod has been leaning against the wall of my shed. As said takes up space and a pain to set up and no noticeable difference. I installed the steady fast stabilizers and they work great as far as I'm concerned.

Fifth wheel tripod = waste of money and effort. Most everyone in my RV group has tried one, and then got rid of it.

We used one on our prior 5er that didn't have a 6 point level up system. The tripod we had was heavy duty one (BAL R.V. Products Group BAL 21100000 FastJack Tripod) marketed for full timers. And it DID make a difference.

Fast forward we traded that camper to a 2019 with the 6 point level up and the tripod made no difference. Those level up jacks made the coach so stable that we no longer needed the tripod or even the wheel locking chocks. So we sold it (and quiet quickly I may add) on Craigslist.

Like others, I've been lugging around the tripod but not using it. I have the Strong-arms which do a great job.

(Now if I could just remember to UNTIGHTEN those before trying to retract. I really need to put a yellow ribbon or something on them to remind me)

I'll use mine if I'm on a level site for more than two weeks. If less than two weeks, or if the site pitches down toward the nose, I don't bother. I have used it when wintering in Arizona, it does seem to make a slight difference.
