Will be picking up new 5th wheel trailer next week, and would like to know if there are any problem areas I should be looking at when doing PDI...Thanks Dave....

Congrats on your new unit. Big things are noticeable, doors that don't latch, scratches, etc.
Small things aren't so easy. Shades that don't stay up, drawers that don't stay closed, switches with no visible purpose.
Just don't be afraid to touch, move and try out things as you move about during the pdi. And ASK questions. And remember, they can all be corrected. Enjoy.

the frig came loose from its mounting and broke looks from the aft panel. this is the only biggie we have had oh do not put any heavy 'stuff' in the cabinets on the back wall above the chairs it will jar the panels apart (no glue) also be mindful of the weight of the clothes that you put in the forward closet yes you guessed it no glue there either. other wise no issues do up grade the tires to E rated

riverss: Your cabinets fell apart from the weight of *clothes*?! That's awful! I can understand if you stuffed them full of canned goods, but a wardrobe cabinet should be able to stand the weight of clothes. Was there anything unusual about what you packed? Do you work in the nuclear industry and have a lot of lead aprons or something?

Dudly the thing that the clothes hangers hook to pulled the panel that it was screwed to from its attachments. it had small staples and was not screwed or glued so it did not take much effort for it to come loose.
sorry to inform you that there was no plutonium, etc hanging in the closet just every day clothes

We just home from picking up our new trailer from Ohio..Been gone 2 wks (5100 miles) and what a beauty she is..It is sure nice standing up in the bedroom, and a full shower, wow.....The water heater doesn't seem to work full time on gas, but electric works fine... so will have to look into that. We had a fun road trip, Thanks Dave......

Very happy to hear that you love your new fifth wheel. We love ours. It's a 2016, so my closet is on the other side and we have a small refrigerator and one AC unit (30amps). I had no problems with my "baby". One thing about water heater is, the on and off switch is located outside where the water heater is. So, if you are dry camping and using a generator, turn the switch off and go with propane. This is The Best fifth wheel.

We have a 2017 8299BS. Our biggest problem has been the refrigerator that won't get cold (it's on a slide) on warm days. I have added fans internally as well as behind it in the slide. Second issue is the long hanging light over the kitchen island continually comes loose from the rocking around and hangs by the wires. The biggest current issue it a growing crack that started from the outside of the bedroom slide (front of the slide and bottom) and is growing downwards on every trip. I have contacted Forest River but no resolution yet. I have had the support for the rear closet shelf give in and collapse. Trim around the ceiling falls off.
Don't get me wrong, we love this trailer but you have to be a little handy to fix the stuff. I did replace all the tires after a blowout with only 2K miles on the trailer. The tires just barely met the weight of the trailer and it was a hot day.

i feel your pain we loved ours but due to health issues have sold it . we had the same issues with the refrigerator i put alum /bubble insulation in the cavity above to aid in the air flow fans in the lower and upper part but marginal at best parked so it would not be in direct alignment with the hot Texas sun. used blue loctite on light issue. added glue where separations in the cabinets. reinforced and glued clothes hanger. have no idea about the slide / crack issue.such a shame that there is not better Quality control . i also removed the water filter and made one from Lowes. good luck in the future.

We have a 2016 8299BS. Have replaced the Castle Rock D rated tires at abt 2000 miles do to blowout. Rpl w/Goodyear Endurance, E rated tires, 6000 miles later, look like new yet.
Biggest issue is we also have a sidewall crack developing on the drivers side beginning at bottom left of bedroom slide heading down towards 5th wheel overhang. Contacted our dealer 2 weeks ago abt noon, sent pics, dealer in touch with Forest River immediately, factory rep approved repairs (their expense) by 3pm, set up date with me to pick up coach on Oct 14, on schedule for factory repairs for Oct 28, to have back by Thanksgiving. All this done same afternoon. Factory rep contacted me late that day to express apologies for our problems, said to list any and all other problems/concerns on paper, will address all while at factory. Pretty awesome service so far. Will let you know how all went when we get the coach back. Till then.

Can you post a photo of the crack?
It would be good for other 8299BS and 8529IKBS owners (Flagstaff sister) to have a visual to watch for.

I would also be interested in seeing where the crack is.

On a side note being a relatively newbie with my camper, when I bring it to the house and plug in a 110, I can run both my A/C units. Is this considered normal, or am I risking damage to something. I have the 13K and 15K that were currently installed when I bought it. I can run just about everything at the same time. Fridge, microwave, A/C's, etc. (Not that I'm complaining, mind you)....

How are you plugging into your house?

If using a 50a to 15/20 amp adapter, running BOTH A/Cs at the same time is probably not a good idea.

With a 15/20a adapter you are reducing your 100a (combined) shore service to 15/20a.

Yes, using the 50a adapter to a heavy duty extension cord from the house. I only had it once at the house and wondered why it ran both. Certainly don't need to, but I'll be bringing it tomorrow before my trip this weekend. I just want to get the fridge cooled mainly, although I was surprised it didn't pop a breaker or something. My next door neighbor's father has a motorhome and he asked how I was doing it. Said "I dunno"... I didn't really do anything.
