8312ss floors

2013 signature ultra lite spongy floor fix. Here’s the construction of the poorly designed flooring in the ultralight trailers. 1/4” Luan wood with 1.5” foam with 3/4 gaps between the aluminum frame.and below the foam is a cardboard like backing. Will updat the fix in a short time

This is why I don’t like walking on the roof of my 2022 RW fifth wheel…not a good design for a floor or a roof.

Rockwood/Flagstaff changed the floor construction, around 2015 or 2016 because of luan flooring issues.

RW and Flagstaff roof construction is still made in a similar way. Except 4 inches of foam and only braced with aluminum at the rear, front, and air conditioner(s). Don’t go on the roof unless you have to

I have a Rockwood 25 fbls, my neighbor has a grand design solitude 38 FL something, been on both roofs. I weigh 175 lbs . I felt secure and stable on my roof on The Grand design all I heard was creaking and soft between the rafters. His rig is a 2020 . Ply foam roofs are supposed to be the strongest around.

Make a reference point where the ducted vents are and avoid walking on those lines…I’m 185 and 2x I heard a “crunch” when I was up there because I mistakenly stepped on the duct line. Also, the failure of the foam floor is from repeated traffic, compression over time. Tread lightly on your RW roof and keep roof walks to a minimum. That’s my plan!
