A/C Up-Grade Noise Level

Can any Body who has the 15,000 Ducted A/C upgrade notice any increase noise level ? Our Trade-in Unit 21 ' had a Standard in the middle of the room A/C, was Not Ducted and Very Noisy. How does the Rockwood Coaches A/C fair with the Noise level ?

Ducted will always be more less noisy the the standard unit just by the fact the room is not subjected to the direct fan or compressor noise (the outside covers blocks some of the noise)

It's still quite noisy, though.

The quietest one that we've had is the "whisper quiet" ones where the A/C isn't accessible from inside the rig. There's no quick-cool dump feature.

I was just curious in what other people thought ! I have read there are covers you can purchase for about $180 which has a buffer to prevent the sound. It sounds like a gimmick or maybe not ?

The sound dampeners for ducted AC units work well. We put one on our system and it cut the noise by 50% (perception). In terms of sound level reduction, it was a decrease between 8 and 10 decibels. So a 10 dB reduction in sound pressure produced a perception of half as loud. In other words, we are very happy with it.

I have the one from All RV. Worth every penny. Simple install and it has a better filter that is easy to clean. Lowered a few db levels and it works.

The WackO Products DA100 Dometic RV A/C Silencer Kit was what we used also. The price was right at $200. My wife and I both have hearing loss and use hearing aids (and I'm an audiologist no less...). So dropping the noise level really helped both of us.

Thanks i was able to find that Web Site of WackO Dometic silencer covers.

My question is it worth the $189.00 or could you just cover up the discharge duct on the original cover and add some foam to block out the A/C noise ??

it’s worth the money it cut my noise in half, what you want to do will not work, I did HVAC and tried everything, I just had to cough up the money

Thanks for all the responses ! I guess when all is said and done....The money is worth it in the long run. Our old A/C unit literally drove us out of our coach, Let alone keep up up through out the night. Thanks Again !

Try this
If I understand how this works, you will lose the vent at the AC unit when you install the silencer kit and all the cool air will come out of the duct. In my case it would all flow to the bedroom and none would be available in the main body of the RV where the kitchen and dining area are located.

This product is for a ducted system. It will eliminate the dump feature.

He is correct in that you will lose the dump vent at the site of the AC in the living area. But what is lost there seems to be made up via the airflow through the ducts. There is aluminum tape that is placed over the vent and a new cover for the AC ductwork that re-routes the airflow. That is the secret to lowering the sound level.

Thanks, that’s what I thought. I guess I’ll have to deal with the noise. I wouldn’t want all the air diverted to the bedroom ducts. It would be too cold there and not cool enough in the rest of the unit.

I didn’t have that problem at all I still had good air flow, it’s on the return side only, it’s not going to stop air flow at all is my experience.
