A few tweaks 2104s
I’m pretty bad about documenting projects. Usually I have a thought and then order some stuff and dive in when it all shows up.
Here’s two with some photos.
1. USB charging added to other side of bed:
2. Fridge was getting warm now that it’s 115 degrees out.
Yesterday it was 107 when I started this project and the butter stick in the fridge was squeezable soft and the beverages not cold. Just like it's been for the past 3 weeks while sitting beside the house. Fridge would cool at night, but during the day it was getting warm. Worked perfectly while we were up in the high country of Flagstaff and Prescott for a few days each of those weeks.
After adding the fans....
Today when I got home, it was 110 as shown on the thermostat and the butter was hard and the beverages were cold. Greatly improved.

Are the fans variable speed?

Constant speed. ~1200 rpm 38cfm
The thermostat is currently set to shut off the fans when it's under 90 degrees outside temp at the rear of the trailer.

I want to add the same, but with an on/off switch. Does anyone know if there is anything behind the top of the fridge (I marked a red dot where I'd like to mount the switch)?

Some work involved, but couldn’t you see it from the top vent or through the outside opening. If you have an endoscope snake camera. I got a Bluetooth one for like 25 bucks.
?? Drill a small hole inside the cabinet beside it and shove your cam in....or from the outside maybe?
Just tossing ideas.

Those are some good ones! Thanks!
Think I might see if I can take a flash picture through the top vent... WML

Love the Fan on the top vent Idea. Is three fans excessive? wouldn't one do the trick? (I am new to RVing as of later this week).

Two of these was my plan. Got 3 for $12. Seems to work. Fridge no longer gets warm during the hottest part of the day. I have put a fan in the fridge now to move the cold air as the bottles in the door don't get cold enough.
Once the temps get back to the 80's the vent fans will not run. The fridge worked ok at these temps and below. 118 not so much.

Nice job on your mods. I'm looking closely at doing the fridge fan mod.

The fans are more noisy than I cared for. They are sleeve bearing and run all day in the heat here for 2 months and are mounted flat. So, I ordered some better fans with a substantially longer service life.
When I looked see how I wired the current fan set, I found that the center fan broke a blade. Probably why the noise. Ha ha ha. The metal screen flexes and the fan hits while bouncing down the road.
While waiting for the parts to upgrade my fan setup, I installed a push button on/off switch.
I’ll update with photos of the fan setup 2.0 when the parts come in.
Here is the switch setup.

Love your fan ideas and admire your bold move cutting the roof of a new RV. For a fridge fan, I've been using one powered by D-Cell batteries and it seems to work just fine, but I can see in super hot climates where it wouldn't be enough. I considered adding a second one, but then I sold that RV and now one is fine.

Fans for the roof are zip tied with uv quality ties to the top of the vent screen. No cutting was necessary. I did have to add spacers to keep the fans off the screen when bouncing. Just dropped two wires down through the vent screen and hooked up to the 12v power available to the fridge controller with a fuse/switch and thermostat switch.
Inside the fridge I used a clip on connector to hook into the 12v already supplied to the light inside.

Fans certainly make a difference. For anyone not getting adequate cooling in their fridge I highly recommend both vent and interior fans.
Not just lower temps in freezer and refer (-5 & 35) but rapid cool down from startup.
Last trip prep my freezer went from 66 degrees with door open to -5 by time I got back from store 2 hours later.
