A question about Rockwood Model 2104.

.

Just found this forum while looking for some information on a Rockwood Mini Lite Model 2104 with the murphy bed.

Trying to figure out the dry weight of this trailer. Some sources say 3419 lbs and others say 2952 lbs. Which is it ?

I like the murphy bed model as it gives you more room during the day.

I had a look around the forum to see if the information was here someplace, got lost more than once and just decided to ask.

Thanks, Hodgy

It's going to depend on the features it has. I just compared a nicely appointed 2104s with a similarly loaded 2109s a few weeks ago (both 2018 models). The 2104s was 4365 and the 2109s was 4235. The larger slide out on the 2104s adds that extra weight.

I am looking at the 2104 not the "S".

The two weights I quoted were the two that I found on various advertising sites on what appeared to be identical trailers from the schematics and photos.

FYI, there is a Sub- Forum dedicated to Rockwood units and you'd get more exposure there than in the forum you're in now.

Are you just looking online for weights? Each unit will be different. With my 2306 the weights had a 400# swing with the units in the yard.

Best thing to do is to go to a dealer and find what you like and get that exact units weight.

Here is a 2104S with Queen at my local dealer.

Thanks, a moderator already moved me to the Rockwood sub-forum.

Yes just looking on line for weights. I was looking at Rockwood 1905's with a murphy bed and found the 2104's. They have larger sink, larger fridge/freezer, larger dinette and do not have the entertainment wall to the left of the door.

I was trying to get the lightest dry weight with a murphy bed and bathroom.

2104? the mini light information only has the 2104S and you said you were looking at 2104 with no S.
the 2304 seems to fit your description. the murphy bed is an option, so that may account for the varying weights you are seeing online. regular bed versus murphy... but still the dry weight on the brochure is 4100 pounds for that unit.

No there is a 2104 without a slide. The 2304 is a different trailer without a slide and it weighs 3789 lbs the Forest River 23FB is the same as the 2304 and weighs 3756 lbs.

Here are two links to 2104's. One with a slide that weighs 2953 lbs and one without a slide that weights 3419 lbs. The one with the slide in no way is only 2953 lbs. But as you can see they do make a 2104.

Here is one of the 2104's that I have found for sale. He indicated that it weighs 2952 lbs when I contacted him.

Ok an older trailer. They don't appear to make the 2104 without the slide any longer.
The only problem with the sticker weight is that this was the actual weight of the trailer as it left the factory when it was new. This weight would not include any dealer add ons, or things previous owners added, so this weight will not be correct. And any weight somebody here on the forum would give you would not be accurate either for the actual unit you are looking at. The best thing you can do is go by the GVWR of the camper. that is a better number to go by as that is the weight the camper should not exceed with all your gear and stuff in it.

Hodgy: Dry weight is for suckers. It's what the unscrupulous dealers and manufacturers use to sell bigger trailers to people who don't really have enough of a tow vehicle. You don't want to be one of those people. There are lots of things dry weight doesn't include, and the TT will NEVER weigh that weight again, so what good is it?

You should be most concerned with the GVWR, which is the maximum weight. If you can handle the GVWR, you won't have any issues.

Look at the sticker on the side of the trailer that looks like this one, and focus on the GVWR, not dry weight.

Here the sticker on my 2503S:

rockfordroo, thanks for the information. Even the sticker that you show, which is on all new TT's is wrong for dry weight. The correct dry weight is on the frame of the man door into the trailer. Each trailer is weighed prior to shipping and that sticker is correct as of that date.

I have gone through identical trailers on many lots and none are the same. I know these weights do not include full propane tanks, batteries, full water tanks, etc, etc, etc.

I do not want to haul the maximum GVWR, why would you ?

What the dry weight does give me on various trailers is to compare models. I know for instance that a Rockford 2104 has a dry weight of 3419 lbs and that a Rockwood 2304 weighs 3789 lbs.

Right there I know I can save 370 lbs. Doesn't sound like much but it helps. I have camped all my life, borrow my Son's trailer a few weekends a year and DO know that the weight climbs quickly as you start throwing things in the truck and trailer.

Because if you aren't going to go with the GVWR, AND you're only going to start with some "hopefully" correct dry weight, then you're either going to have to weigh everything you put in your TT and add it up, or go weigh your TT at the CAT scales whenever you go camping. And if you need to do that in order to make sure your TV can handle it, I"d say you're running too close to your margins to begin with and you need a bigger TV.

Get a TV that can handle the GVWR and you never need to worry.

Good luck.

I have the TV that I have and it will handle the GVWR. 2005 Chev Silverado, 5.3L, tow/haul package, 4.10 rear end. Maximum trailer weight 8,300 lbs, GCWR 14,000 lbs. Won't be buying another TV.

I use equalizer hitch with friction anti sway bar to haul all my trailers. When I do get a TT the lash-up will be weighed empty and loaded once. No need to weigh it every time you go on the road. My margins are good.

This is not my first rodeo, just looking for some answers on the 2104.

We have a 2304 (model year 2011) Murphy bed, no slide. We pull it with our Toyota Tacoma with no problems. The slide mechanism adds a lot of weight and seem to be a source of problems according to members of the forum. We love our mini lite. It is perfect for 2.

Thanks for the reply. Yes the Murphy Bed is a must have feature in a "smaller" trailer.

Can you tell me what the dry weight of your 2304 is ? Also what engine do you have in your Tacoma ?

This is the kind of response I was looking for.

I have a 2304 KS that weighs 4400 lbs dry. I haul it with a crew cab, long bed, V6 2013 Toyota Tacoma with no problems whatsoever. The tow rating on the Tacoma is 6400 lbs and is not the problem. The cargo capacity of the truck is limited at 1050 lbs. With the hitch weight, and the DW and I, the truck is at capacity. I am pushing it when I throw in the bikes or kayaks.
