I've got one I swap between my main tow vehicles. I use it mainly to supplement Waze, especially for figuring out which lane is blocked if I do end up in a backup. Have had a few times what I was able to let a trucker know he was dragging a chain before it messed anything up.

Like everyone here had one in the 70s. Still have it but never bothered to install in my trucks. Do the GPS thing and not waze to many folks tracking you like anything else now days. Put an app in want all kinds of crap. Nope I like my security and I don't have enough data for it any way. Later RJD

Yep, have one now, mostly just listen when traveling, has enlightened me a couple of times about trouble ahead.

Drive the speed limit and pay attention to what your're doing and you won't need to worry about so-called "speed traps".

Many fond memories of cross-country trips back in the 1970's with nothing but CB radios for communications. I still carry two portable 40-channel units in case we need to use them, with one to loan to a fellow traveler as needed. My call sign is still "California Cookie Monster". Give it a try. On several occasions, we were able to contact emergency services via CB radio when we witnessed some serious traffic accidents.

A CB is a good backup that's inexpensive. Cell phones and Waze work great as long as you've got cell coverage. If you travel in the boonies where cell coverage is weak or non-existent the CB can come in handy. You'll still hear about accidents, construction and traffic problems before you get stuck.

I put one in my rig and leave it on while traveling even if we've got cell coverage. I have heard of a couple accidents and traffic issues on the CB that were not reported on Waze.

Yes, occasionally you'll hear some loudmouth/foulmouth on the radio but they have seemed to be fewer and fewer. To me the potential benefit at low cost - I think I paid $45 for mine new and it's got a weather channel on it - is well worth it.

Yes back in the days when we actually communicated with each other and people had RESPECT for one another!

Yes CB can actually be fun!

Well, I didn't really want to mount my full size CB in the new truck just for the few weeks a year we travel. OTOH, sometimes they can be useful. Amazon just solved my problem with the lowest price I've seen on the Midland 75-822, which is portable from vehicle to vehicle or even hand held. $56. Paired with my old mag mount antenna this will give me a CB for the long trips but won't be in the truck during the off-season. Done.

Yep! I had it peaked to 25 watts and tuned. I use it with my brother, and also in Idaho forests when boon docking on narrow roads. Often in Idaho, there will be a sign indicating the channel to use. Yes, it can be useful.

Still use mine. IF I see the tragic starting to slow down etc the truckers will tell you way in advance what is up ahead.
You can buy one like a cobra from 49 bucks on up.
I set my squelch where I don't hear much, but when I see something I turn it down and listen.

I use one. It's helped me avoid getting s stuck behind accidents, or having an accident (eastbound I40, traffic is stopped at mile xxx)

We occasionally use walkie-talkies with this TV channels in them when we're traveling in couples or whatever otherwise no.

Waze is the way to go for me. I've got satellite radio to listen to along the way, plus Waze to help me avoid traffic issues (or at least expect them). Plus Waze is owned by Google and Waze is where Google Maps gets their traffic date from...user input.

Would much rather talk to a real Human on the radio regardless of race or creed...

Never was a cb user but when i purchased my new motorhone 4 months ago , i bought a cb to enhance my communications options knowing i will go to some areas away from main roads and dont expect consistant cell service. The Midland unit i purchased is also a eeather radio which will also come in handy. They're not expensive!

As a x over the road driver 1 in 30 may still use the cb but that's about it most have buds in their ear and music on. just last week going down I 90 we came to a stop and right now I drive a quad dump truck part time for a friend so we use a cb for the stone pits and other drivers. I tried and tried to get info on whats going on and not one west bound driver came back to me only a dump truck drive in the same side as me telling me he was in front of me what was going on. so I would say its just about useless any more

Started in the early 70's at the beginning with 23 channels and rode the rush of the 40 channels and rode it out till the end. Still have 2 Cobra's, 1 Midlands mobile's and a Midlands handheld 40 channel. Had a Browning Golden Eagle for base station.
Call sign...KJB8981

Ok if you still have a call sign that was from the license days you are getting old like me [emoji23]

Don't remember the whole thing but started with KBAG.....

And yes with all the items on road conditions, traffic, etc built into the radios these days and Sirius subscription, have though about cb but all the people we travel with just text each other now etc.
