Automatic switch from empty propane tank?
I've been told that the TTs automatically switch from an empty propane tank to the full one. Not sure if that's true for the 2007 Rockwood Signature Ultra Lite 8314ss I bought a few months ago. Anyone know?

If there are 2 tanks, it likely has a switchover.
Took me a while to figure out mine (yes, I'm slow):

Should be in your paperwork if it has an auto switchover.
If it isn't it'll have a manual lever "right or left" tank

I don't like them you only get to know the tanks are both empty, I always leave one valve closed so I know that I need to fill the other one, this works for me but some may prefer being left with none.

Mine tells me when the tank the arrow is pointing at is empty. As long as I check it periodically, I'm fine.

That is how I have always done it. Manually switch them over. So when one tank runs out, you switch it over to the full tank, and then re-fill the empty when you get home. That way, when you run out of propane in the middle of the night, or whenever, you will only be out as long as it takes you to go out and switch it over. If you are allowing it to auto-switch, when you are out of propane, you are really, really out of propane.

Yes it will have a 'auto' switch over. Use at your own risk, because when you run out of both tanks and the DW is cooking dinner..... she will kill you for not filling up the empty tank that you knew nothing about. Use the manual switch and run one tank out before you switch over and open up the other tank.imo

if you have one of those between your two propane tanks, then yes you have an auto-transfer switch/regulator....

I have that one and I know it's an auto-changeover type but I, like others, prefer to manually switch it over when one is empty so I only open one tank at a time. Once one is empty I switch over and fill the empty one. I don't like to be caught with no propane and I find this method easier than constantly checking the valve to see if it's switched over.

As they say- there are many ways to skin the ole cat. I leave both tanks open and usually have a good feel for how long one tank lasts. Now that I understand my switchover, I haven been surprised yet.
On edit- I'm not implying that others don't know how to use theirs. I literally didn't understand it and ran out of propane entirely before I got a grasp on mine.

I finally figured out how to use the switch, and read the dots, this year. I do it the same way you do now, and it works fine. Just have to remember to check the valve every couple of weeks.

This is what mine looks like. So it's a manual switch, right?

Thanks, folks!
You can't really see it in the pic but there is a green strip in the middle of the black lever. Does it turn red when that tank is empty or in some other way give you a clue on tank levels?

If you've ever had to get up in the middle of the night in COLD weather
and get dressed and go outside to open the valve on the 2nd tank you
might re-think how you manage your tanks!

That is on a 2007, very strange? I had a 1995 model and it is 'auto'.

I use a very small 'auto' temp space heater to 'cut the chill'..... I will not sleep in my camper at night with the furnace coming on and off at night. Furnace is shut off.

I think this is still an auto change over regulator: open both propane tanks, if arrow is green as shown in photo, close the tank that the arrow is pointing too. Light up your stove in the trailer and see if green indicator turns red. If it does then turn switch at regulator toward tank that is in service and red indicator should turn green. Then you will know for sure......

Good idea. May try it later, but right now trying to cool the TT down in this 90+ August heat..so in no hurry to crank up stove.
Maybe this is a hint: I now see that the guy I bought this from left both tanks open. That only makes sense it it's an auto, right. Otherwise you would keep the second tank closed until you needed to use it.
