Barbecue Grill outside

I have in my 8289 a gas line on the right hand side and a bracket or some-kind of holding piece of aluminum for a grill.
Does anybody knows where to buy the grill that attached to it?

You could probably buy from dealer however are you sure that it did not come with the camper when you bought it or was it an option. Later RJD

It is an option on some RV's and sometimes the dealers don't have them included in the RV. My Flagstaff (sister line of Rockwood) did have the sidekick grill/bracket in a storage compartment when I purchased it.

Here is one place to get it, if you want it. I also see them pop up on our classifieds here on the forums from time to time, where members don't want theirs.

Just remember that whatever grill you do get, that it needs to be what is called a low-pressure grill in order to use it with the grill hose already on your RV. This grill hose is going thru a regulator, and a low pressure grill doesn't have a regulator.

If you buy a Coleman or many other grills that have a built-in regulator, then when you try to connect them to this hose,...... it's basically being double regulated, and the flame will stay low.

We have many threads on how to adapt for this, by either removing the grills built in regulator, or running a hose direct off your propane tanks before the low pressure grill hose regulator. Doing a forum search will be your friend if you decide to use something besides the sidekick grill or similar.

You can with either a grill regulator modification (to use the low pressure line) or tap into your propane tanks and run a line from them.

We have many threads on both.

I modified my coleman road trip to run off the qd gas connection, it's not hard.

The grills that come with trailers are junk. I never did like the idea of attaching a grill to the side of my trailer anyhow. I modified my grill bracket into a bracket to put my tv outside.

If you do plan to buy the original Sidekick type you might want to at least go for the stainless steel version. The OEM black version is just thin stamped steel and after 3 seasons of only light use is showing heavy rust, the burner cover is holed and loose and the rack is completely rust covered. The Sidekick SS is the exact same look, just with the parts stamped out of stainless so I really can't say I'd really recommend that either. Camco makes a model called the Centurion that looks much beefier and is compatible with the low-pressure system and mounts to the rail.

Myself, I bought a NexGrill portable from Costco... completely decently thick SS and the rack is built of beefy SS rod. I've thought about adapting it to the low-pressure system and mounting rail but will use it on a table (built-in, fold-out legs) for now because I already have high-pressure Extend-A-Stay hose on the door-side LP tank for a propane firebowl.

I have never been a big fan of a grill attached to the side of my RV. You might consider a stand alone table top grill as you have many more uses ( power outages at home, picnics) and many more choices. Most of the grills and stoves that I have seen included with units have been lower quality and performance.

I have a 2015 8289ws Diamond pkg & the grill was lost but the table was kept.
I kept looking and pricing while waiting patiently for one to show up on some local
classifieds & here on FRF.
I purchased an "unused sidekick grill" on these FRF classifieds 3 days ago.

The stock picture of the grill on a camper is from the web that shows setup.
The other grill picture shown was given by my fellow FRF member that sold it
and the propane hose picture is my camper :-)
The picture of us camping was 2 weeks ago and can't wait to try out the grill.

Thank you for the brilliant example of using a power cord hatch to run the propane hose. I was always dissatisfied with having to leave my propane bottle door open to run out the Extend-A-Stay hose and this will make that very tidy indeed.

This Rockwood came with the hatch as standard equipment......now being used for a door to connect outside coffee pot water

That grill (same pictured above) that came with my Rockwood is total garbage.

Mine is sitting in my storage locker and you can have it.

I've been grilling for 30+ years and this "grill" will disappoint you after the first run.

I cooked a steak on it.... the whole thing was well done and not a single grill mark was burned onto it. The bbq sauce didn't even get hot. You see... the problem is that the element is about 2" below the grill and destroys anything you cook. I'd say it is only worth cooking hot dogs on.

Get yourself a set up like I did and you won't be disappointed.

Camp Chef Stove and GrillBox30. The Grillbox is infrared cooking and is reallllllly good at it. Plus it can double as a stove to cook a pizza or w.h.y.



You will need to remove the stoves regulator and replace it with a new hose and connectors.

That one in the bottom pic is the one that SHOULD have come with your RV. I have the same model- 2015 8289- and that's what came with ours. For us, it's been a pretty decent BBQ. (If you're from out West, that's what we call grills.) Call your dealer.

FYI, I do 99% of all cooking outside.........smoking, grilling, frying, whatever.

I just got this one.........looked at the Weber Q grills.....which are probably a tad bit better made, but not big enough inside, and ran on 1 lb propane bottles. And more expensive. This one runs on full LP bottle. I carry one extra in back of truck, in a milk carton. This one will smoke, or grill, or both. I cooked burgers on it with the smoke tray full also, and man.......what a great flavor the smoke tray adds. And it fits in the basement. Don't know how well it'll hold up.........will have to see. But it solved all my grilling requirements, and is a smoker too (though I wouldn't try and smoke a brisket for 12 hours on it, or anything similar)........
