Definately not! Some dealers will 'give' you a starter pack which includes a low quality sewer hose, roll of tp, and other stuff. I say 'give' because you're paying for it someplace. Of the 4 campers we bought the batteries and full LP tanks were always included in the sale. Again I'm sure I paid for it somewhere but it was never a required add on. You do need a battery for the electric brakes switch to work in an emergency. I'd be looking for a more reputable dealer. BTW the electrical adapter is a 30AMP to 20AMP adapter in case you camp on a 20 AMP site. You can get those at WalMart for about $5.

I think $199 is alot if they give you cheap stuff. One dealer I talked to didn't give u anything. They said they give you a discount in their store so you can buy what you wanted and a better quality.

Ditto - Pure rip off.

They MUST give you a battery because it is illegal to drive it off the lot without one.

Tell the dealer you will be getting the items listed above for free or you will not take the 30K 5th wheel.
Also, I would be asking for another discount for them insulting you. The battery is required!
On my used 2011 coachman, I made them include the battery, 2 full propane tanks and a $800.00 prep / walk through at no charge.

Our dealer installed a battery, filled the LP tanks and included a "starter kit" that included a piece of sewer hose with an adapter to connect to the dump valve on the trailer, a water pressure regulator, a roll of RV toilet paper, and a 25' "no taste" water hose for fresh water.
They also gave us a card that gets a 10% discount for anything in their rv store for 3 years.
$199.00 sounds a little harsh.

I made sure the $199 startup & PDI charge was included in the OTD price when I signed.
(plus the hitch & installation, sales tax, registration, ...)

Our dealer included a battery plus he upgraded the 20# LP tanks to 30# at no charge. He also installed a toilet riser and adjusted the WDH. It took overt an hour to get the WDH set up properly. He also gave a great discount on parts in the store. This was when we purchased a used TT. The dealer is about 1 1/2 hr. away and when we pass by if we drop in to purchase items in the store he still gives us a discount.

On walk through, our dealer simply stated that the tanks were full.
I expected a battery to be in the box.
We used the TP.
The other stuff was garbage.

The only add on charges our dealer added was state sales tax... I bought my own permanent tag from DMV....... included was full 30 lb gas tanks, new battery, instead of the junk starter kit (he knew we had all that from the trade) they installed two vent covers no charge & a nylon fifth wheel ring, I am probably forgetting something....... they have always given us 10% off supplies.... Being we ordered it Puma upgraded the size of the TV.

But we agree on a price & that was it, no paper work charges or any charge that went to the dealer ...............

I got a starter kit, nylon fifth wheel ring second battery installed, two 2k Yamahas with the connecting kit and a 10% discount on supplies for the first year. I did have to pay for the installation and price of slide toppers, hitch and three vent covers. I feel the dealership still made money or they would not have taken the deal.

This dealer is looking to lose a sale.

A battery?!?!

I've never heard of a trailer brake equipped trailer where you had the pay "extra" for the battery!

That seems to say to me in pretty clear resolution that they are scamming you and are probably bereft of anything resembling ethics and morals.

It would have been delivered to the dealership with a battery in it. Otherwise, the "hotshotter" who delivered it would have had no trailer brakes.

But, it isn''t illegal to sell you a trailer without a battery. It is, however, illegal for you to tow a trailer without a battery if it has electrically activated trailer brakes. It kind of falls under the "loophole thing for the dealership. They're not breaking any laws with the sale, they let you break the law by towing it....

All the other stuff they are listing in the "starter kit" is pure utter crap. The hose is probably the paper thin blue plastic stuff, the toilet paper is 1 roll of biodegradable stuff, the water regulator is a cheap plastic "break the first time you use it" piece of junk.

You can get far better stuff for less than 199 bucks if you buy it elsewhere. DO NOT BUY IT FROM THE SCAMMERS WHO ARE SELLING YOU THE TRAILER, or you will probably end up paying 199 bucks for crap anyways.

I would also recommend you make sure you check around and see if you are paying a fair price for the rest of the rig.

Finally, I'm willing to bet the warranty service is going to be one royal PITA from these guys if you ever need it....

"Normally" the "hotshot" guys install there own battery for transportation to the dealer then remove it upon delivery .

I have never purchased a trailer without a battery (new or used) and would walk away if they were telling me it was extra... New 5er actually came with 4 6-Volt batteries.

Maybe so, but I've never seen it.

They always would show up with batteries installed when I was there on "delivery day" (such a fun day to be there and see the brand new rigs roll in!)

Hotshotters always left the battery when they left the lot....

I just so happened to be at the dealer when my trailer was delivered and the hotshot driver took his battery out. I asked why is he taking out my battery and he said that it was his, the manufacturer doesnt provide one for delivery and that the dealer would install one for me.
