Question Brand of Antifreeze

For those of you who winterize with antifreeze, what brand do you use and recommend? I see that WallyWorld has SuperTech super cheap, and Prestone at a premium.

Does the brand of antifreeze make much difference?
Should I spend a few more bucks for the pink stuff?

Thx,
Kevin

I bought 3 gallons of the cheap stuff yesterday. Don't see any reason to spend the extra on anything more expensive.

I buy the cheap stuff. I checked out both the Prestone and SuperTech, and bought the SuperTech. That has ethyl alcohol in it !! I might not flush the lines next spring, so I can get a buzz off of the 1st couple glasses of water........not !!!

Check out my thread on the ingredients here: http://www.forestriverforums.com/for...nts-16948.html

i don't have to winterize but i don't think you're supposed to put auto antifreeze in the RV water lines.
you should be using RV-specific antifreeze. auto antifreeze shouldn't go into lines that people will be drinking from.

Bikendan, he's talking about RV antifreeze. Both those he mentioned are for RV's.

Be sure to use anti-freeze that is made for RV's when winterizing, it's non-poisonous.

both Super Tech's and Prestone's RV antifreeze is pink, so it sounded like he was talking about auto antifreeze.

And I should have said that both those manufacturers make RV antifreeze, but Prestone also makes auto antifreeze (not sure about Super Tech), so you were correct in making sure he understood he needed the pink stuff.

No reply from Kevin, I hope he did not "Taste Test" the car antifreeze.

Seriously. from his post it does sound like he was considering using automotive type antifreeze in his potable water system to "save a few bucks". They use car antifreeze to kill wolves in some places. Sweet to the taste and dead in 12 hours.

Super Tech and Captain Morgan The camper doesn't appreciate the Captain, and I find the Super Tech to be little sour tasting

Sorry for the confusion; I knew to use RV Antifreeze. I sure wish we could use automotive antifreeze, as I have about 10 gallons in the garage...

I ended up using the cheaper brand. The 2902ss took just over 3 gallons, probably half a gallon just to fill the filter canister. For $3/gal, no biggie.

MtnGuy, I too noticed the cheaper had ethyl alcohol, which was listed as the first ingredient. If non-consumable products follow the same guidelines as consumable products (doubtful), then there's more ethyl alcohol than anything else... The premium's ingredients listed "Other proprietary ingredients" at the end.
