Built in water filter
We have a 2018 MiniLite due in soon.
Even with the new ones, is the water filter leaking still an issue?
I am going to use the Camco inline at the water source, but an extra level of filtering cant hurt...
What causes, or how are the filter housings
leaking? Something bouncing around and smacking them?

The housings crack. If they give you an FR1 like they gave me (see below), take it out.
I'm unaware of any mods to the FR1 to keep it from cracking. People are still reporting failures.

Too many bad reports of leaking. I removed mine and bypassed. I use the Camco filters from Walmart.

I have taken it off because:
1 - It makes more complicated to winterize.
2 - When it leaks, you don't know until your floor is completely flooded.
It is a good idea but in my understanding the filter should be in the kitchen - visible - under the cabinet above the countertop.
This way, if it leaks, you know right away.
The reason why it leaks is because the cup is acrilic or policarbonate and the fitting were it screws into is probably polietilene with glass fiber.
What happens is that those two materials expand at different rates when temperature goes up so you first de-winterize when it is cold and when summer comes, they start leaking because of the difference in thermo expansion ....
The ones that crack is was because people put too much torque trying to eliminate the leak.....

The new WaterPur housings are called RCS housings, and replaced the FR1. They use the same filter cartridge. They supposedly have improved and are not supposed to crack and leak. I am still going to take mine out and put hose fittings on it and use it outside of the trailer. Here is a pic of my RCS, you can see how it's a bit different than the FR1 pic posted above.

Thanks for that! I will look to see what ours comes through with.
Crazy to think with all the complaints/posts out here where folks have had problems, FR would put an inferior quality part in especially one that can cause a lot of damage

I don't think this is an inferior and/or sub standard filter.
I think that FR didn't test it enough to catch the fact that this design/materials will have problems with the heat cycle that TT go through every year....
My filter never leaked when it was new but after I de winterize it started leaking during the summer....

I've got an FR1 on my 2013 Rockwood Signature Ultralight, 8315BSS and have had no problems. I change the KW1 each year.

KW1 Filter
Quick question...my 832IKBS also has the KW1 filter cartridge/housing mounted under the bathroom sink. I have never had a leak issue...(knock on wood)...as yet, but I do worry a good bit about it cracking or failing somehow and me not catching it in time. So my question is this...many posters say they "by-pass" the filter/cartridge and use outside filters. Exactly how is the best way to do this? Just remove the housing and splice inlet/outlet lines together? If so, with what? I will probably remove mine before winterizing this year so any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!!

Just wondering where you purchase the KW1 replacement filter cartridge? I have had difficulty finding them locally here in Phoenix, AZ.
Thanks for your reply ahead of time

X2 on camco on the exterior.. Everything you need for the elimination of the big tube can be had at lowes. The best part is putting the camco in the freezer after each run, it will slow down the germ farm. Also consider swapping out the water valves. The factory HW plug is at best odd and cheap

See my last pic in post #2. It's a 1/2 inch coupler from Home Depot. Some folks have gotten hose type fittings and a short hose and use the FR1 outside rather than a blue Cameco. They make a filter support out of 3/4" PVC.
