Buying a used Rockwood 8272s and need opinions!

Hubby and I put a small deposit on a 2001 Rockwood 8272s today. Just wondering if this is a good purchase or not? We need some opinions from other Rockwood owners. DO you like them or are the riddled with problems? We have not signed the dotted line yet, but want to know if we are getting in over our head. Love the floor plan and the looks of it.

We welcome all suggestions and information!

Watch for previous water leaks damages. Look for soft spot on the floor and in hidden area. If you see something bad stay away from it. Check the roof condition. A new roof is expensive. In year 2000 I had to replace the rubber roof on my 23 footer and the price was very salty: close to 2500$ and this was 11 years ago. Sometimes it is better to buy new. You dont have the smell from other owners . So many used trailers are smelly and not very inviting.

We love ours and also know that there is no trailer that's perfect. I've done a few modifications inside & out, but we're very pleased with the trailer. What I really like is the over-all weight of the trailer. One of the lightest in the Signiture Series, it tows fine behind our 1/2 ton Chevrolet but being 28' I've decided to add a second friction sway control just in case of high winds. With only 1 slide out for the dinette, I don't think it will have the problems of water leaks like the big heavy slides and their seals. Good luck with your future purchase and feel free to ask questions.

We have only been able to take two short trips with our Rockwood, but we LOVE it! Even being 10 years old, it is in great shape. Everything works as it should. Plenty of room for us, our daughter, two friends and two dogs during a cold, rainy weekend. Played lots of cards and ate most of our meals inside. We love the floor plan and the large kitchen space. We are having the under belly replaced next week but that is the only repair we are needing to do. We got an awesome deal!

We have a 2011 Rockwood and the mounting brackets for one of the slide outs all pulled out the the wall and floor. So you never know what you are going to get. I bet that if they are no issues with the 2001 then its probably going to be OK, just take a good look at everything.

Sending pictures tomorrow. I have already designed a steel bracket that will lag to the floor and wall, the slide out brackets will attached to those with bolts. Not sure what Forest River will do for us. Bolting the brackets back to the wall will not work...poor design

We have a 2008 Rockwood. Love it. Matter of fact just recieved the title today....YEA! Its really all mine now. Your purchasing a 10 year old unit. Just look it over very carefully and check everything out to make sure all systems are functional. We've not had a lot of issues with ours. I'm confident it will continue to be this way. I will also add I treat it like its the only one I'll ever own. I stay up with maintenance on it, replace wear items as needed and keep her nice and cozy in a heated building. I look for potential leaks both outside and inside. Tighten hoses and such as needed and recaulk seal areas every season. Just getting ready to drop belly pans to have a look around underneath. I usually find something I feel can be better, so tinker with it quite a bit.
Good luck with your decision.

Get the V.I.N. number and do a title search with MVA of DMV what ever it is called in your state NOT a car fax. My camper was just totaled from Hurricane Irene the camper is going to salvage, but i hear that it may be resold. The salvage company said someone will buy it and put a new roof on it, but there is a lot more to repair it then the eye can see......BE CAREFUL!!!
