Chipped/cracked front window
Discovered chipped front window (not by my tow vehicle) on my Rockwood.
$977.98 before tax to replace.
Our manufacturer needs to come up with a solution for their product.
I have read a number of suggestions on how others are attempting to create their own "shield" to prevent this from reoccurring.
Having something strong enough, and have it stay on at highway speeds is the challenge.

As a preventative procedure, we had our service tech install ClearPlex (high end front windshield film protector)

Just went through this on our new 8336BH. Took a rock on the 2nd trip out. It was covered by insurance, but still. Some kind of protective film would help I imagine. I'll be looking into the suggestion above.
Technically any auto glass shop could do the work because it installs the same as an auto windshield. Getting the glass is the tricky part. In my case it had to be ordered and special freighted from Forest River. My dealer had a glass shop they knew could do the install.
By the way, if you're an FMCA member, you can coordinate the replace meant through their provider and get a free year of membership.

Front window chip/cracked
Thanks for the responses.
The chip caused a crack horizontally across the whole front window.
It was not noticeable from the outside until we raised the inside shade. Only then could I locate the external chip.
I taped the crack inside and out for our return travel. I did not want the window to implode while hauling it. Fortunately we had no problem.
The glass almost appears to be 2 pieces..?
I prefer to have my RV dealer make the repair as they are specialists.
Do you think window film is strong enough to prevent a crack if hit by another road object? I would think something thicker is required to absorb the shock.
I am open to any solution.

Our service tech who installed the ClearPlex said this is used on high end Automobiles.
He recommended it for us to prevent chips on our RV front window. check their website.

I know the Lance people get custom covers from a place called Auto Weave in Colorado, you might give them a call and see if they would make one for yours.

Thanks for more info.
Went to RV service who sent me to Auto Glass Repair shop. Apparently my Rockwood Ultralite RLT2608 has automotive window type glass on the front.
Now waiting for them to contact my insurance.
I asked him about future protection. He said: "park it"......

Two pieces as in one on the exterior and the other on the interior? If so, then yes, there are two pieces. It's laminated glass just like the windshields on your vehicles. Other than long cracks, it can be repaired just like an automotive windshield. If you get a star or bullseye damage, get it repaired immediately so it doesn't spread.

I think this guys solution would work well too. If you did velcro all the way around I don't think the extra straps and clips would be needed.

My wife and I installed this ourselves. It took some patience, but wasn't too hard.
Comes with 2 rolls of film. Only one roll needed.

Made this cover for the window on 2104S. It’s attached with adhesive SNAD snap fasteners and I used a section of foam carpet pad as backing, the same size as the window for added protection. There has been no problem with it blowing off. For me I never intend to remove it but for someone that does it could be difficult.

Have you actually purchased & applied this?
Well...We did order a roll.
Video makes it seem so simple. We were going to have our RV tech install, but one look he said no way! My advice...Please do NOT try this! It is a thin flimsy piece of sticky clear plastic.
Note: NO returns even if item was never opened.

I have a 2019 2109S and would like to make a window covering similar to yours. I have searched Amazon for the SNAD adhesive fasteners but am not having much luck. Would you by any chance have a link you could share from where you purchased them? TIA!

For over 100 years automobile manufacturers haven't been able to solve this problem. I doubt that RV manufacturers will be able to solve it. Even bulletproof glass will splinter when struck with a projectile.

Here is another option I found doing some research. Some don't like having that many snaps drilled into their trailer, but his company puts Bras on $300,000 motorhomes. I have not done it yet, but seriously considering it.

The SNAD fasteners, button snaps, Naugahyde material, and tool for attaching the snaps were sourced fro Sailrite online. Just search Sailrite
