Christening the New Rig

I grew up on boats and sailing and have done many of the traditions of the sea with new boats, champagne, stepping a mast on a gold coin, etc. Is there a tradition for christening a new travel trailer? I feel like something needs to be done to ask for blessings and safety from the weather and things breaking. Anybody ever seen a script for one?

There is one tradition: Fix the first thing you find wrong with it. ☺

Welcome to the forums! Congrats on your new purchase... Now ... The real "christening" is that first night the kids are left with Grandma and you and the loved one get to spend the night ALONE in the camper! (You know what I mean!)...

But for the kids, you might just break open a bottle of bubble grape juice and do a "toast"! (Then get the kids off to Grandma!)... [emoticon]

OK, looks Like I have some work cut out for me to make this happen. The traditional boat christening is a great chance for friends and family to come over and check out the new boat. Think something along those lines would be kind of fun for the new rig. Will share if I can get something together. Scott

Good question. I've been through a few boat christening and those can get a bit kinky! At least now you don't have to please Neptune. Maybe it's time to create your own family tradition?

We don't believe that any rituals are needed. We just pray for protection before every trip. God is good.

Neptune will be invoked as we live on a small island! His wrath is what did us in with Irma. Will have to give a little whiskey to appease him

A christening party for a new rig seems like a great idea. Wish I had thought of it. I'll definitely do it when I get my next rig.

For the current rig, I must have picked just the right time to bring it home.

There was an unplanned visiting party:

I drove up in front of the house, turned off the key, and got up to head inside for a bathroom break.

Before I could get the door open, a neighbor was there staring at the door. When opened, I was asked the traditional, "Is this your new rig? What did you do with your other one?"

Before that neighbor completed the tour two more showed up.

Then three more.

Now we have a "house full" and I see more coming down the street.

If I had announced a planned party, I might have had time to go to the bathroom before they all showed up.

We had a grand visit, if somewhat strained by the growing necessity.

Well if you get out to NW Montana, there is a little campground on the Kootenai and Yak rivers with great fishing. The rivers don't get any cleaner than out west. Happy camping.

We mostly witnessed fly fishing on our western trips. BTW I really do like the idea of a christening ritual for RVs. I think you ought to start one.
