Coming Unglued!!!

Well, we have out "new to us" 2009 Rockwood 8317SS for exactly 25 days now and used it for one 1 week trip. We finally got some nice weather this last weekend so I thought I would detail the trailer top to bottom. Started with the roof and worked my way down... waxed her up real good!!! During this process I noticed some things that I was not too happy about....
Roof vinyl is coming unglued and there is some delamination happening in the back end as well as a 3" diameter bubble in the front on the sidewall that is very hard to see unless the light hits it just right....not under a window or even close to the roof line....cant see any evidence of water damage inside....sent pics to the dealership and they want me to bring it in after my holidays in Aug so they can fix it! Hopefully that means replacing damaged walls and roof at the manufacturers level. Needless to say the DGF is none too happy and a little bit stressed about the situation. Hopefully the dealership takes care of the problem without giving me the runaround.

Guess I will have to wait and see.....

To be continued....

Hopefully FR will step up to the table and make it right.
I have a spot on my rig that is right below a downspout and a seam.
Hopefully I have fixed the problem and it will not get worse.
I'm out of warranty so not much hope for me.
Good luck!

FR has been known to fix delamination issues on tt's after the warranty has ran out. It would be worth checking out.

One of our FRF members, rockwood06, had a tt 6 or 8 days when he found delamination on his tt. He got them to trade it out for another one just like it. Might be an option for you since you've only had the tt 25 days.
As far as what I'm seeing in your roof pics, that's about normal.
Good luck and keep us up to date on how things go.

Here is what the service manager sent me in regards to the roof...
Tim,

**Here's an initial thought on the roof issue. You will be getting a call soon, if not already, from Service about bringing your unit in to look at the walls. I'll keep you posted. *

This is a TPO roof membrane( not Rubber) Because it is a TPO roof you will
have a bubbled edge because the material is thicker than rubber and is more
rigid than rubber so it does not bend over the edge like rubber does. The
nice thing about it is it is much more durable than rubber and does not
chalk up near as bad a rubber does over time. Plus is you happen to get a
hole in it the repair is to heat a patch onto so as you end up with roof
that appears to be seamless.

I have an appointment on the 19th for them to look at the walls and discuss with the manufacturer.

Due to the fact that it was a used unit... There is only a 90 day warranty from the dealer. It was also pointed out to me from my sales rep that it was used a single time as a rental for a movie company...so he doesn't think that they ever sent the warranty card to the manufacturer for this unit....not sure what that will mean for ME...

At least my dealer has been quick to respond to me and everything is documented.

I feel somewhat better hearing from a forum member (Gary), and the service manager that the roof is normal.

I thought I was looking at a picture of my roof: Brand new 8312ss! I saw it on the inspection before taking the unit home, got the same explanation from the dealer.

The roof isn't glued, it floats on the roof underlayment (usually 3/8" laminate), so it can expand and contract in the hot sun and cold nights! Very normal looking ! As for the side walls....FR has helped in the past with Delamination on used trailers(as gary noted!) so hopefully they'll help you, but its a factory repair! it'll take 5-10 weeks to get it returned if they OK the repair!

Delamination issues

MY 2009 8314BSS also had delamination on the sidewall. My dealer emailed pics I took to them to Forest River and after 3 weeks at the factory, I will be picking it up next week. Lucky I live only 90 minutes from their factory. Mine was off warranty and FR didn't hesitate on repairing it for me. I did have to bring it to them at my cost but was happy to have it repaired at their cost. They also check the unit out thourghly and found a problem with the radio and replaced it, a hatch door leaking and some other minor stuff and repaired and or replaced those too.

I wound up with a new roof, both sidewalls replaced and all the windows were taken out and resealed. They even painted the power hitch that had some yellowing from the sun. I would say to make sure you go thru your dealer first. In my book, Forest River did an outstanding job in my case. Hope you have the same experience. Gary
