Custom Shelves

I would like to add shelves to my closet slide out and I'm wondering the best way to do this and if I can screw to the side and back walls safely.

I added drawers, you just have to use screws that just barely reach thru the thin paneling and use at least 3 on a side & end.

I did basically the same thing, but also in the hanging clothes wardrobe section I took out the bar (we don't travel with clothes that need to be hung up!) and put in 2 more drawers (side by side) at the bottom. Then I added two full width shelves in the space above the drawers. To do this I screwed/glued 1/2" x 1" trim on the sides and back of the opening, and then cut 1/4" plywood to exactly fit and sit on top of that. Ours is a double door opening with a center vertical wood stop for the doors, so I also ran another piece of trim from that piece to the trim on the back for both shelves to sit on to minimize sagging once fully packed.

I also installed similar drawers in the tall skinny single door kitchen cabinet to hold plates, glasses, utensils, etc. That was pretty tricky because the space between shelves in the cabinet was so high, and we didn't need drawers that deep...so I made 3 drawers to fit into one opening (each about 3" high, with about a 1" gap between them). VERY difficult to 1) reach in to mount the slides and 2) get them level.

I added shelves in our pantry, but used wire baskets so that items wouldn't slide out during travel.

Nice, I am in the process of adding similar shelves to the pantry (looks identical to yours) but using draw slides because of the 2 foot depth. I did notice the shelves on mine were sitting on supports that were merely glued to the thin side walls. I added 1/2"x1" to both sides front and back top down (glued). Seemed very flimsy prior to the supports. I am now installing slides with wood as we will use one draw for can goods. I like your baskets for the others and may steel that idea, although will screw them to the wood base of slides this will save me some work.

I just found this pic on my phone that I forgot I had. This is the BR wardrobe closet after the drawers and bottom shelf were in. I then added 2 more shelves in the space above that one.

Try using pop rivets. I have had great luck with everything I mounted to the panels on my ultralight.
