Do they come with a battery standard?

Noob question!

So in the market for a 8280, and the sales guy said for $150 they would provide a batter and fill up the propane tanks. For $250, a second battery and propane tanks filled.

So two questions. First, does a battery normally come standard with the purchase price and second, does this seem like a reasonable deal? The sales guy couldn't tell me the size or AH rating of the batteries. I was eventually going to put two golf cart batteries in the trailer.

Base price of a trailer does not include batteries or propane fill. Some dealers add that into a PDI fee. Your guy is charging by item, which is fair, unless he double dips and charges a PDI fee also.

I always insist in an itemized quote before I will sign any deal.

You can take it without batteries and install your own later, but you MUST HAVE A 12 VOLT BATTERY CONNECTED in order to tow. The break-away system requires it to actuate the electric brakes.

WOW!! Never been to a dealer where a battery and full propane didn't come a part of the "deal". I hate dealers that start charging extra for simple and sometimes mandatory "add ons". As part of "good customer relations" the dealer should provide battery, fill your propane and NOT charge you for your PDI (yes, some dealers charge extra for this). These "add ons" may be hidden in the final sales price at most dealers but don't make it a point of charging extra for them.

Also, if you said no and took delivery without a battery you would probably be violating state laws relating to the emergency break-a-way trailer brake system.....it needs a battery to work and is probably illegal to tow without a properly operating break-a-way brake system in place.

Units come from FR without battery and empty propane tanks. Dealers provide. BUT $150 sounds high for the type of battery most dealers install.

Thanks guys for all the replies. I assumed they didn't come from FR with a battery, but didn't know if it was something the dealers was supposed to provide. Also didn't think about not being able to drive them without a battery, but if that is the case, you'd think they would be provided.

Hondaman, as far as 6V batteries, they said they sell the Interstate GC2-XHD-UTL 6V battery. Doubt I'll buy from the dealer, but I'll get them somewhere else and wire them in series for 12V. Never have like the short AH depth of 12V car batteries.

If it does not come with a battery, how do the brakes work without one when they tow it to the dealer? Seems to me that you want it to be ready to pull off the lot with whatever it needs for safety and be ready to use. If you bought a new car and had to put a battery in it to get off the lot, I would question that I was buying from the right place. Am I missing something here? Would be hard to do the PDI with no battery I would think.

In a deal, those items along with hoses would be included or I would walk.

They do.....factories ship without batteries. Dealers supply depending on requirements of add-on accessories & customer request.

But, IMHO, a basic battery should be supplied as part of the deal.

Call their bluff. It probably already has the battery installed and they just want to milk you.

You can get a group 24 battery for $80 if you catch a sale. And propane is cheap right now. My local RV dealer charges 50 cents a pound. A 20lb tank costs $10 to fill. $15 for 30lb RV tanks. So thats $30 for both.

What they are doing is like a car dealership trying to sell a car with an empty gas tank. It just makes them look cheap.

A little OT, but if the dealer is playing the ala-carte game, make sure there is a spare tire and spare tire holder in the deal. As mentioned battery and propane are both providded by the dealer , but are usually included in the price of the trailer. BUT if the total price with all the add-ons is your best price it should not matter.

Independent Haulers, have their Own Batteries, they encounter the same "Dead Battery problems" as all of us if your unit is Sitting out Back when you go to pick it up from Most Dealers lots, even if you have told them to "Use the Battery Kill Switch"! If your Dealer fails to fill your Propane tanks, some "Propane Fill Stations" will Charge you a "Purge Fee" on your New tanks also! Youroo!!
