Equalizer WDH & Windjammer TT's

So I was reading a thread at another forum regarding using the Equalizer WDH and how it may not work with some V-nose trailers. Since I am waiting on our new Windjammer to be delivered, and since I plan to purchase the Equalizer WDH with 4 point sway control, I wanted to see if there are any Windjammer owners who currently use the Equalizer WDH specifically, with their Windjammer? If so, were there any special modifications needed in order to be able to attach the brackets to the frame? Anyone care to share any pics of your Equalizer WDH set-up with your Windjammer?

Yes, this is the same question I saw posed at another forum. Sorry, didn't realize the question had been posted here too.

Mods: feel free to delete my post!

3002W Towing Experience

Hi Kamp K,

We just came back from our initial trip with our Windjammer 3002W. We had a 28ft Terry prior to this and only used a friction sway control with that camper. The towing experience with the Terry, while not horrible, also wasn't great.

When we upgraded to the Windjammer, we also added a Reese Dual Cam. The difference is like night and day. While I wouldn't say it was completely sway-free with the Windjammer, it was alot less than we had with the Terry. We were even traveling in rain and wind on our way to the campground that was about 80 miles away via interstate. In fact, it was a pleasure to tow it.

Hope this helps even though it doesn't directly address your Equalizer question.

I asked the very same question a couple of months ago.
Here is a link to that thread:

If you read the thread the ProPride hitch will work with V Nose trailers. I am going with the Equal-i-zer for our new 3008W Rockwood.

Seems as both the Reese Dual Cam and the Equilizer will work?? I am headed out this weekend to look at the v-lite, which I believe is the sister (brother) to the Windjammer series. The dealer I ordered the trailer from is not very close, and they dont stock the 3006w. My plan is to take some measurements and look closer at the TT and see if I can find anything at all that makes sense to me!

I currently tow a 31ft Starlite with the equilizer, and I have very little sway, even on windy days. I will update with my findings.

If anyone has any pics with either the reese or equilizer hookede up, that would be awesome.

Hey Mike...I tried to view the link you provided, but it wouldn't take me to the thread for some reason. I plan to go with the Equalizer too, as I already have it on my current (smaller) TT, so I am familiar with it and like it's ease of use. I've never experienced any sway with my current set up, but I am going to go up from 1000 lb bars to 1200 lb bars when I buy the new WDH.

Here are the floorplans for both the 3008 and 3006 Windjammers. If these diagrams are close to the real things then it would appear that you would have some difficulty in installing the EQ4 in the 3006.

Actually the bottom picture is the 3008, which does appear to have more frame available for mounting the brackets than the 3006 would appear to have. The top pic is the 3006 with the entertainment center that looks to extend out on the frame more than the 3008 with the front kitchen. So it would appear the 3008 would not have an issue necessarily with the Equalizer, but perhaps the 3006 might?

I was able to find your original post, Mike. Thanks for sharing the additional info!

And thank you, Frank, for posting the floorplans for comparison sake. The visual helps to make sense of it all.

Bottom line, at least for my cirsumstance, I feel comfortable now knowing the Equalizer with 4 point sway control will work for my trailer. Thanks all!

I'm glad you found my orgingal thread. I posted last night at work and was not for sure on how to insert lnks.

I've been told on other forum's that I probably should go with the 1200 pound bars because of all the weight that is going to on the hitch. The 2010 ads claimed that the V Lite or Windjammer with the kitchen in the front had a 950 pound tongue weight instead of the now claimed 750 pound weight. Most people have come closer to a 1100 pound tongue weight.

Our 3006W finally arrived and we picked it up yesterday. We went with the 1200lb Equalizer 4-point system. This fit perfect with no mods being made to the trailer or truck. The tongue on this unit is 958, which is why I went to the 1200 rated hitch.
I will try and post pics once we get to our destination.
