Have taken ours on over 6000 miles so far and have no nicks or chinks. Have considered the thin mylar film used on cars to protect rocker panels and fender skirts. The film is totally transparent and almost invisible. Just haven't pulled the trigger yet.

It is an idiotic design, I recently talked myself out of the purchase of a 2612WS and the front window was one of the reasons.

Forget about worrying about chips in the face of the glass. One small piece of gravel hitting the bottom edge of the glass will blow it out in short order. That edge should of been recessed into the fiberglass cap, or a fold out fiberglass cover should of been provided. Better yet no window at all, not sure if I want or need one behind the headboard of the bed but the more bling they throw at it the more it appeals to first time buyers.

My thoughts were what is going to be the availability of that glass should it break? They love to change the design of things and are not known for keeping parts on hand for prior designs.

I added a product called ExoShield to the windshield of my motorhome. In theory it increases the strength of the glass by 6 times.

270,000,000 vehicles on U.S. highways with laminated glass windshields and now it's an idiotic design.

They shoulda just stuck with the cover that they used to come with. It served as an awning when open. My '13 21DS came with the cover, but the window doesn't open, which is dumb!

This is not tempered glass that will shatter if hit on the edge, it is laminated windshield glass like a car.

So far I have lots of chips in the front cap, nothing in the glass.

If you have a front murphy bed I agree, why put a windshield in. I have a front kitchen and like it.

Interesting.....

..... I wonder what windshields are made of?

I have one of those windows on my Rockwood Ultra Lite 2604WS. The trailer I had before the 2604WS had a solid front that suffered a lot more from damage from Florida love bugs than rocks and debris. I am more worried about having a tire blow out than getting hit by a rock.

We purchased our Flagstaff 29RKWS a little more than a year ago. This past August we did a 2800 mile trip and on the return trip, less than a hundred miles from home a rock from a passing vehicle hit our front window and cracked it. It did not “explode”. It has not leaked and unfortunately it is still not replaced and that is for another discussion about Duncan RV systems a division of Lippert!
I will be following for ideas for some kind of protection.

I'm looking at the 3m paint protection stuff, I think it is 8 mill thick. Not for windshields so don't know if it would look hazzey or not, with the murphy bed we don't look out that window much.

I used EXPEL clear film on my Corvette nose, side mirrors, and headlamp lenses. It works great protecting from chips, is invisible still even after 5 years (I do garage it when not driving), and is 'self-healing' in hot sun. I had it professionally applied. Not sure it would stop the glass from cracking if something big hit it.
