furrion grill

I have just purchased a 2503s mini lite but don't take delivery until April and I was wondering what people think of the grill that comes with the unit. Does it work well for you? Are you concerned with cooking that close to the rig/ and under the awning? Is it generally large enough? Thank you for your help!

I assume you mean the RVQ like this one:

You will get responses from "piece of crap" to "works great for me."

I'm going to be breaking out my popcorn to eat while I read the other responses you get.

So far, it's been OK for us. We grill a steak or two and it does OK for that. I cover the grating with aluminum foil.

If your a really serious griller, though, you'll probably be dissapointed.

What Rockford Roo said. The grill will cook some basic foods just fine. We use it for steaks, burgers and hot dogs etc. To each its own.

I use it, but replaced the grate with something called "Grillgrates". I had to trim the plates to fit. Using this does quite a bit better than the original. The anodized aluminum plates do a good job of transmitting the heat more evenly than the open chromed grill.

To trim, I taped the plates together, then marked the shape of the original grill on the flat side of the plates. I cut with a saber saw, then used a small grinder to smooth the edges and round the corners appropriately so the top would close. We've been using it that way for about 3 years. Only issue was replacing the spark coil once, when it broke. As you can see, the surface of the replacement grate gets hot! If I were to do again, I would buy one more grate section and cut to fit the full surface of the grill.

There are other grills, but this modification made it useful and I like the ability to hang the grill on the side of the camper AND use propane from the camper without carrying extra bottles.

Lots of info on the product on the website: https://www.grillgrate.com/

Used it on the first trip - wasn't crazy about it. You don't have to use on the Camper - the system will also work as a stand for the grill on a table. So we sold it at a yard sale. I use the weber Q.

I kind of like mine. Doesn't mount too close to the side of my TT so heat damage risk is low (Unless you have a "fat fire".)

I use mine for hamburgers, hot dogs, steaks. Nothing that takes hours and hours or requires "smoke".

Cooking items outside that produce oily smoke is, to me, a lot better than grilling inside. As for table top units, great if you don't mind carrying extra items.

The grill is a lot like my outside kitchen. Don't use it for anything I can cook inside on a stove top but if I were to want to boil a pot of crab, etc, it's perfect. Inside of the trailer won't stink for a month after.

As with everything, some will like, some won't. Just like everything else in our world.

Thank you for your feedback, I guess I'll give it a try to see how we like it before investing in a different one. David your mods are impressive, I can tell by your pic that you take grilling seriously!

We use ours for small things but have a Weber Q for those "serious" grilling sessions. I don't always bring the Q but I do always brinq the RVQ. It's more like our "stand-by".

I had one (RVQ) and tried to cook a 1" steak. The whole slab was well done in a short matter of time with no grill marks and the BBQ sauce wasn't even hot. It's impossible to sear meat.

The reason for that is that the burner is so close to the grill and the heat just goes right thru the meat.

It's only useful for hot dogs. I bought an infrared grill from Camp Chef and use it on a Camp Chef stove. Powered with LP from my onboard supply.

And yes I've cooked 1000's of steaks as I worked in a steak house for years and I know a few things about cooking on a grill.

well I could see why that would be frustrating! Most people seem to like the weber Q?

Our previous rig, a pop-up had an outside high pressure stove. I loved it, and did 99% of my cooking on it. I hoped the RVQ could do the same. It can't even start to serve as a cooktop. I've tried it a number of times for boneless breasts, burgers and the like and it does fine. If I were to do a roast, I'd bring my Weber Smokey Joe and use charcoal.
