Geo Pro E Pro battery shelf question

I take delivery of my Geo Pro G19FD on Monday. I will be bringing 2 6v GC batteries and this NOCO dual battery box. I plan on cutting a pice of plywood for extra support for the box, as it will not fit within the battery shelf rails. Planning on running bolts through each corner mounting hole on the box, through the plywood, and then securing them to two metal straps running fore and aft, effectively sandwiching the battery rails between the plywood and the metal straps. To ensure nothing slides around, I was considering ripping a couple of grooves in the underside of the plywood to accommodate the top edge, or lip, of the battery rails.

My question: Can someone give me the fore and aft distance between the upper edge or lip of these rails so I can dado cut the plywood (cut grooves) ahead of time?

If anybody has any cheaper or easier suggestion for mounting this box on my battery rails, be glad to hear it or see pics!

Bump. Oh, if anyone takes a measurement, can you also give the the distance of the vertical portion of that angle iron holding the batteries? Need to make sure I get long enough mounting bolts. Thanks!

Sorry I can’t really help you. I know that my 2504 would hold 2 of those “marine”battery boxes between the rails. In my case it was just screwed down to the rails. I’ll gladly measure mine if you think it would help. I think that they are standardized. Jay

I called dealer and he reported it was 8 inches between the rails and rail height is 1.5 inches.

NJKris,my rails are the same 1.5 x 8 inches apart. My short rail is about 27 inches long. (The short rail). How long is the battery box you are going to use? Jay.

I have a 19FD and replaced the single 12v. battery with dual 6v. batteries.

I bought one of these and it fit well between the rails.

It was too tall to fit in the space. I had to cut an inch off the top lip of the box to get it to fit vertically. The front of the trailer curves toward the battery and restricts the height. Note: Cutting the battery box worked fine.

Note the 6 volt batteries are plenty small enough. However, the height of the box could be a problem?

David, your box specs say 8.5 inches wide. So is the space between rails 8.5 inches??? Dealer said 8 inches.

The space is 8". The base of the box is 7.75"; lid is 8.5"

Thanks Dave, if I can't get the NOCO box I have to fit, I'll use yours or a pair of cheap individual 6v boxes.

You may have to go with a different box than the one you have. On my unit there is no way a box that is 13 inches wide will fit. I can tell you for sure that 2 group 24 boxes will fit side by side on my unit. 2 of the bigger group 27 boxes will not fit. What I ended up doing was to shim the rails flush with treated wood then bolt down a heavy duty black tote from Walmart. Three group 31 (just slightly bigger than group 27) batteries fit just perfect with the “long” side of the batteries going front to back. I have seen pictures on here of 2 boxes on a geo pro. One box IIRC was for the inverter and one for the rest of the camper. Switching to 2 6volts would be easy if the cables will reach. Based on my own experience I think they will. Jay

Thanks John! I just retired this year, so I'm probably spending WAY too much time on the forum, but it's the only outlet I have for the excitement of picking up our first 'RV'! 3 more days btw! I have been looking forward to doing this well over a year. Started buying all the RV accessories about a year ago. Ordered the GeoPro about 2 months ago. Bought a new tow vehicle to replace my decrepit Dodge Ram a month ago. Everything is building towards towing our little house on wheels around and seeing more of this great country of ours!

Jay, I think I'm going to be doing the same as you did shimming the rails flush. Any close up pics would be appreciated. My box being 13.5" wide at base, I will have 5.5" of the box hanging forward of the forward rail. Not a big deal, just need to build a little shelf of outdoor plywood for beneath it. My only concern is how much space is between the front rail and the back of the propane tank cover. Hoping it is at least 6 inches.

Sounds like you are all set. I'm sure you will enjoy it. I've have about six months in my E-Pro FBS and we love it. Twenty-eight days of camping and over 1,500 miles done so far. And one one trip planned before the cold weather will put a stop to it.

I just used plywood as shims like you said. If I was going to do 2 6volts like you I would just use 2 of those boxes for a group 24 battery. The dealer might throw a second one at you for nothing. (You would get one anyway). If not they are about $7 at Walmart. I’m not sure that you would have enough room even if you shimmed the rails, or you could have more, depending on how the “box” sits in realition to the rails. In my case it cleared just barely. But it makes pulling the plastic propane tank cover harder to do. When it stops raining I’ll try and get you some pictures. Jay
