Geo Pro E Pro Off Road Package tire replacement

On my Geo Pro, I have Westlake ST235/75 R15 tires with aggressive tread. Due to the numerous threads I've been reading about 'China bombs' (Westlake is a large Chinese brand with a dubious reputation), I'm considering replacing them sooner than later.

Anybody else with this tire will quickly find out.....there are no other brands of trailer tire in this size! Apparently Rockwood has contracted with Westlake to produce a unique trailer tire size. So if you want to keep the larger tire the trailer came with, what do you do?

Do you have a picture of this tire (tread and sidewall) that you can post? I'm curious about it.

That is interesting. It appears they have the same tread design as their LT tires in the CR857 model, but it does have a higher capacity (Aka load index) of 110/105 vs 104/101 in the LT tire of the same size.

I am assuming the + at the end of the CR857 may be the differentiation between the LT and ST models, but would need to research that more.

Thanks for the pics, as this definitely has piqued my curiousity since I am in the tire business.

Anything you can find out for me would be appreciated, I would want at least the same size tire and load rating. Having no luck at all. I can't even find that particular tire online if I wanted to buy the same one!

Have you tried Lionshead, as that is where FR gets a lot of their tires/wheels?

Maxxis 8008 tires are made in the ST225/75R/15 size, I ordered four new ones on Ebay with free shipping & no tax. When tires arrived they were 3 months old and were made in Thailand. I have now put close to 9000 miles on them without any problems. The tread depth still looks like when new. I will recommend then to you and if you research on this forum, you will find others that love these tires. Load range on the tires I ordered and received is "E".

Other than enhancing trailer braking, just a little bit on gravel roads, why do manufacturers put aggressive tread tires on trailers? They cost more and wear out faster than a highway tread.

Afternoon Kris
Check out this video.

He has I believe 16k on the stock off road tires with no issues. Single axle trailers are not as hard on the tires. Maybe give them a go for a season. But if you have a blow out, please disregard the above advice.

You're on it again NJ, I've been meaning to get into the tires on our Geo Pro as an off-season project, and I just saw this: https://carfromjapan.com/article/ind...id-purchasing/
Seriously. If your going to pick an inexpensive tire to slap on your new line of trailers, at least check to see if it's on a list of the top 5 tire brands NOT to buy!

I read that article Scott, which is why I started thinking about the tires. Tom, I've seen that guy's video, maybe I'll just give them a go. My new TPMS arrives tomorrow, so I'll at least be able to apply best practices for proper pressure. The trailer will probably be 4k lbs at the most when fully loaded, and I'm probably concerned about nothing, which reading too many posts on forums can do.

wmtire, I did send an email to LionsHead earlier today, no response yet. I'll give them a chance to reply back before I start calling and pestering them. I hate calling companies. You inevitably have to speak to two know-nothings before being shuffled off to a 3rd know-nothing, it's such an incredible waste of time.

PSU Turf, I did pay a little extra for the high ground clearance off-road package. My trailer is touted as being capable of taken off the beaten path, with integrated solar. I imagine the aggressive tread tires might help being towed in some mild off road conditions to prevent side-slip. Or maybe they market that package to appeal to guys like me who like the more rugged look.

We use LT tires on our 17,500# fifth wheel, no problems SC to CA and back then MD and back. What ever you do, get a tire monitoring system with temperature and pressure warnings and save a lot of repair expenses from blown tires.
