Geo Pro E Pro stereo gripes and improvements

So I mentioned in another thread, the guy who walked me through my Geo Pro G19FD pickup seemed clueless about how to use the Furrion sound system. Thanks to this forum, I was able to explain to him how to switch sound from outside speaker to inside speakers (you change the balance, which you have to know how to access from the menu.) BTW, I have the Furrion DV7100, manual is available online.

My trailer is wrapped up for the winter, but I'm already thinking of changing things for Spring, namely the way they wired this damn stereo. I'm guessing they wired the mono outdoor speaker to one channel, and possibly parallel wired the two indoor speakers to the other channel. Does this sound really stupid to anyone who knows anything about sound systems? If you are inside the trailer, you are only getting sounds from one channel (across both speakers, yay!!!) and outside, you are only getting sounds from the other channel. So if you have a recording of two people singing, one recorded left channel and the other on the right channel, what do they expect you do do, stand in the open trailer doorway to hear both???

So, separating the two channels to each of the indoor speakers is simple enough I hope, just run wires from each speaker to respective connections on rear of stereo plug. Now the question of powering the single outdoor speaker.

I would have to install some sort of speaker selector switch to select between inside and outside. Still not rocket science.

But how would I feed both L and R channel speaker output to the one speaker? From my initial research, it is not as simple as connecting both left and right channels in parallel to the one speaker, this could be bad.

Any of you audiophiles have any ideas?

I replied about this in the Flagstaff thread. See the DV7200 model. Appears to be the unit we should have had originally installed since it solves the issue with two speaker zones, but maybe wasn't ready yet.

So this model is not even out yet. What's going to be our work-around? This is a cheapo unit to begin with, don't want to be spending more than it's worth.

JP, the new unit is now available on the Lippert website https://store.lci1.com/dv7200-stereo-system. 110 bucks plus shipping. That is option one which will allow all stock speakers to work properly

Option 2 is installing a speaker selector switch, and running a 2nd pair of speaker wires (the L channel) to the outdoor speaker, and replacing it with this one https://www.crutchfield.com/p_917FS4...yABEgLgm_D_BwE
Which will make things sound much nicer outside, but with the spacer they sell to make it a surface mount and the speaker selector, you're talking about 250 bucks for that option. The speaker I linked to you connect to both L and R channel wires, it is unusual in that regard.

Stereo

So to hear both tracks you have to keep going in and out the door? WoW ! Maybe some engineer had exercise in mind when they designed this system. Hmmmmmm!

Engineers should be forced to use their product before they are allowed to release a design as stupid as this!

I would simply check your wiring first. There are lots of threads here where the factory simply loused up the wiring. Pull the unit out and check how it's wired.

so they connected the interior speakers (both!) to the LEFT channel, and outdoor speaker to the RIGHT channel, making you use the balance control to change between outside and inside. Brilliant!

Thanks for the heads-up Kris. I ordered the DV7200 from Lippert.

I'm pretty sure I've seen the DV7200 installed in some new trailer promo materials. Not sure why Furrion isn't making it more generally available. It doesn't seem like much of a technical leap from the DV7100.

JP, take a look at the wiring diagram for the new one online, it confused me. I think there are errors.

The good news is the new version DV7200 is about to be installed in new Forest River units, and you can buy it for 110 bucks, and can be wired for two zones. AND it is exact same size as old unit, which is neither single or double DIN size like standard car stereos.

I have been debating the 7200 vs the 2 zone sound bar, just not sure how I would get it in there. Would need some paneling from fr I guess.

Has anyone thought of adding a second speaker? It looks like it would be relatively easy to do so to the right of the Geo Pro logo as that would be directly behind the radio. https://m.imgur.com/uVGwpqm

Not sure if I should use the same speaker or get two new outdoor speakers. I assume these speakers are so thick because they are surface mounted which is an advantage.

BTW if anyone is curious about the sound bar -

UPDATE: So I got the 7200 model with 2 zone control. It will make controlling outside and indoor speakers easier to control, just a press of each zone button to turn speaker(s) on and off. BUT......and Furrion tech support confirmed this...the single outdoor speaker will be wired to the L channel of zone 2, therefore you will still only get L channel sounds outside on the one speaker. So I will probably end up getting the surface mount speaker from Fusion I linked to in post #4 down the road. But at least now I will have stereo sound indoors and proper speaker control. BTW, these Furrion head units are only 9W per channel @4 ohms.

Update: I did replace the cruddy 3" Furrion outdoor speaker with the Fusion mentioned above. You will need the surface mount spacer as well, and a tube of 3M marine adhesive. Pulled old speaker off (4 screws and some sealant). Was relieved nothing was pinching speaker wires and I could easily follow them to head unit harness. The new speaker came with it's own speaker wire with spade connectors for the speaker end. Using old speaker wires as fish wires, I pulled the new speaker wire through the wall, and used spade connectors to connect speaker, and splices to connect the other end to the head unit harness. Held speaker surface mount spacer against outer wall where I wanted it, lined up so wires on new speaker would go through hole in wall and not bunch up behind speaker preventing it from lying flat. While holding in place, predrilled 8 holes in wall using spacer as template. Using marine sealant, sauced up side of spacer going against wall, then used screws VERY lightly tightened to hold in place. Another layer of the sauce, then speaker went on and screwed into spacer. Looks good and feels solid. Sticks out less than old speaker did. Sounds very nice, good bass. Re-wired indoor speaker to proper left and right zone 1 channels. Installed a bracket with a tilt feature on old TV bracket, now I can see TV properly when sitting in dinette, or lying in bed. Pics coming soon, trailer is at shop for bad A/C unit.

Looking forward to the pics. When I was given the walk-around tour of our 16BH I was told the outside speaker could not be turned off. It wasn’t until I researched it I found out how to adjust the balance away from it. The 16BH has two speakers, one inside (R) and one outside (L).

Sounds like we had the same guy on our walkarounds! When I asked him to show me how to control the outside speaker volume (knowing from this forum that you had to adjust the balance), he had a look on his face like I asked him to sing in German for me!

Don't you love it when you're smarter than the salesman?

Then I must love it a lot, lol. This happens to me every time I shop for a car. It actually angers me a bit when salesmen do not know their own products as well as I, a potential customer, do.
