GeoPro 16BH: How to tell if my Solar on the Side port is connected?

So I’ve heard there are some issues with the GeoPro16BH solar on the side sometimes not being connected to the battery by the manufacturer. I’ve also read that the polarity may be switched. So I bought a voltage indicator. I put both leads into the port and nothing happened.

Does this mean that it’s not connected? Is there another way to tell? I have a solar suitcase and we are looking to go boondocking this weekend. But can’t if I can’t figure this out. Thanks!

* Edit - Actually it looks like it’s connected! Hard to tell in this picture but the red lead is in the top and the black is in the bottom and it’s showing a positive voltage. Does that mean I don’t need a polarity switcher?

You don't want to switch polarity. The reading you get tells me that top connection is connected to the battery and the bottom goes to chassis ground. Typically, the positive terminal is wired to the battery side of a mini 30A circuit breaker and the negative (ground) is wired to the chassis ground inside the J Box.
