GeoPro 20BHS
Hey All,
Looking at the GeoPro 20BHS for a primary 2 person rig but with some room for the kids when they may want to join. I'm curious to see on the specs that they only come with a 12V fridge... Why no 3way fridge?
What is the battery draw from the 12v fridge?
I'd upgrade the solar and battery for boondocking capability, but 12V only on cold storage has me wondering?
Relative to the Geopro line, what are other decent alternatives with similar floorplans.
This would be for mild weather trips with the wife and I. Some remote work from the road. Pre-retirement.
Thanks,
Bryan

I guess you haven't noticed that the entire RV Industry has moved to 12v only fridges for all new RVs, even in popups. This is because they are cheaper, easier to install and easier to get.
This started happening during the pandemic, when getting 2-way or 3-way fridges got harder.
Many different RV manufacturers are making trailers similar to the GeoPro line, since that type of TT is the most popular segment of RV sales.
Remember that the Flagstaff E-Pro is the twin of the Rockwood GeoPro.
A lot of owners with a 12v only fridge, have at least 190w of solar and LiPo batteries.

- Cost
- Supply chain availability (since COVID)
- Space (ducting through roof, outside vent)

High enough to make boondocking problematic. It varies from brand to brand, ambient temperature, and how much time is spent with the door open. Here's one estimate: "A 12 volt fridge uses between 30 and 55 Ah (amp hours) per day on average." This estimate is in amp-hours, not amps. Remember, it's not only the current, but also whether the unit runs 5 minutes out of each hour or 50 minutes out of each hour.
30-55 Ah is less than one day use with a typical single RV battery.

So I'm assuming these 12V devices draw off the converter when on shore power. I would plan a fairly hefty upgrade t0 the solar, with 400-600 watts on the roof and probably another 200 (or more if the tech improves by the time I pull the trigger in a couple years) in portable solar. 200-300aH of LiPO4 battery and I'd be covered.
My current PUP has the 3-way, and I love that thing...!

On shore power, the converter, the battery, and the loads are all connected together. The battery is being charged (if needed) and the loads are being served. Individual electrons could be supplied to the refrigerator by the converter or battery.
If really big loads (levelers, slideouts on bigger trailers) are being served, electrons could be supplied by both the converter and the battery.

A lot of people do. Some people can't get their heads around the difference between an compressor refrigerator and an absorption refrigerator; they expect the trailer to work like their home.

I don't have my G20BHS anymore, but I had two standard batteries and the 12v fridge. It could go for about 2 days, a bit more if I was in direct sunlight for any significant portion of the day. This was with the standard roof mounted solar panel.

How did you like the 20BHS?
Why did you move on?

I absolutely loved that trailer, but with a family of 4 and a large dog, and occasionally other guests, we wanted to bump up a size.

We moved up to a Flagstaff 25BRDS. We liked our GeoPro so much we wanted to stay with a Forest River product.

On your 12 v refrigerator question, all EPRO and Geo Pro trailers the second half of 2021 switched to 12 v. I have an EPro from the first half of 2021. First, we love the trailer, mostly do long trips, 25 to 35 days to the western states, from North Carolina. We very seldom stay in a campground that has hook ups. If you want the ability to camp without hookups, then install a second solar panel and two 100ah lithium batteries. The solar controller can handle a second panel, so its a simple add. Also, you could put a single lithium battery in and take a few trips, then if needed add a second panel and 2nd battery…
There are a number of similar trailers, but the EPro/Geo Pro in my opinion are the best setup for the money, and lighter… Jayco makes one, Grand Design just announced one and Winnebago had a very expensive one…
Best of Luck… if you search on my ID, I did a very detailed write up after our first long trip…
