GeoPro owners: Which 4.5 CuFt. 12V fridge did you get?

Hi there,

I got a 4.5 CuFt. 120V fridge in my GeoPro 19FD and looking to replace it with a 12V one, for those that actually got the 12V fridge, what was the model #?

The only one I could seem to find online is the Everchill WD-127FDC which looks to be a direct replacement but I can't seem to find the dimensions.

Ours came with the Magic Chef WD-127FDC. Seems to be the same as the Ever Chill.

I have the 19FD and was lucky enough to get the Dometic dual AC or propane operated fridge, build date OCT-NOV 2018. They are stupid expensive bought on their own, plus you would have to T off propane line for your stove to power it.

**Dometic RM2551-LB. Over a thousand bucks delivered from most websites.

What's your runtime like with the 12V? can you get through a day or two without hooking up? And how many batteries do you have?

We have 2 flooded batteries. We haven't done any boondocking yet so I'm not sure what the runtime would be. There's been a few discussions on here about 12V vs dual-source units. The biggest draw from the 12V will be when it's initially cooling, but supposedly they will only use an amp or so once they are at the preferred temperature.

And that initial cool-down will hopefully be at home where you can plug in the day before and chiller down! Once everything is cold, and you put cold food and drink in there, don't think you'll be using much power.

I have the Everchill WD127-FDC. Bought it to replace our Dometic 110v/propane frig that died last year. I have 2 group 24 deep cycle batteries, but haven't had a chance to do real world testing on run time. I plan on doing that once weather gets warmer. I can you tell that ours draws 4amps running after cool down. Not sure of amperage pull at start-up but I'm guessing around 10 amps or so.

If yours is brand new, file a warranty claim and see if they will send you a 12V fridge.

4 amp draw will exhaust the typical Group 24 battery in less than 15 hours after which there will not be enough voltage left to power more than a couple LED lights. A pair of golf cart batteries will increase that by a factor of 4. Recommend you fit these batteries regardless if you even plan the occasional weekend off grid.

Yeah I've been trying to get my dealer to do that but no luck, I'm educating more than they are helping - they are trying to tell me the 110V fridge is standard in all the 2021 trailers they are receiving.

Yup already ordered 1 100Ah LiFepo4 battery and will likely add more down the road.

Unfortunately I don't think this would qualify as a warranty issue as there's nothing technically wrong with the fridge. Plus FR can make changes at any time, without notice on any equipment (just look at the footer of their website). In the COVID era, the equipment supplies are so out of whack, they are putting whatever they have into trailers in order to get them out.

It maybe possible to refuse delivery of the trailer during PDI because the fridge isn't what you were told/thought it would be. Not sure if that would fly, but once it's accepted and they get their money, the dealer doesn't really care.

Only because they're ordering them that way. The factory doesn't push these to dealers, they have to order them. 110vAC fridge may be the base model unit but there are other options.

I don't think the dealer has the option to order a 12V or 110V fridge. The standard on these is 12V. When I spoke to Forest River, they were substituting the 110v due to supply issues and they didn't want to halt the line waiting on more 12V's. I agree probably not a warranty claim, unless it fails. For the ~$500 that it's going to cost me to replace it, I've more or less resigned to taking it as is and eventually swapping if it bugs me and I'm doing a lot of off-grid.

Supply on all trailers and the ability to negotiate anything right now is pretty limited as demand is still high.

Just for fun when I looked up the Dometic propane/AC unit in mine, it is out of stock everywhere. They are GONE.

Yup, some searching for a 12V replacement is turning up similar results... may just need to wait a year or two until inventory builds and prices drop.

What Niloch said. I have a 2021 19FD on order, waiting for arrival. I reached out to Forest River today asking about the fridge as I'm also getting the 110V version. They confirmed the exact same thing as they told Niloch.
In the email response, the representative even said "...the 12V refer that is supposed to be in there..."

On a related note, the rep also confirmed that the cabinet/space for the fridge (in a 2021 19FD anyways) is 43-3/4" T x 19-7/8" W x 24-1/2" D in case you want to look to replace it with another unit. I think that is going to be my plan once I get the trailer.
(Edited to add the Depth of the cabinet)
