Goodyear tires or back up cam?

New trailer can only afford one at a time. New Goodyear endurance tires right away or buy a furrion back up cam and use the Chinese tires for 6 months?

Tires. I bought Endurance tires the next day after buying our fifth wheel. Bought the backup camera six or eight months later.

If you don't replace the tires first you may be replacing more than just the tires if you have one fail. That would make the camera purchase even further down the road.

Also you might consider putting a good TPMS on your wish list. Many of us have the TST507 with color monitor and love it.

Camera. Super helpful while driving. Lane changes and such are amazingly easy with that camera. Tires will be fine for 6 months, if not longer.

Tires......

An example of why. My trailer has tandem 3,500lb axles and came with Marathon 14" tires on it. Axles are rated at 7,000lbs total, trailer sticker also lists maximum total capacity as 7,000lbs. 4 Goodyear Marathon ST205/75R14 tires have a combined weight capacity of 7,040lbs. Yep, only 40lbs over the axle and trailer capacity. Normally you would think this is not an issue. But consider how trailers are built and how people tend to load them. The weight is not perfectly even across all 4 tires. Also that capacity assumes the tires are at a perfect maximum inflation. Basically there is no margin of error. The real world is filled with tests for the margin of error. Hit a pothole hard and boom, turn too sharp and boom, overload one side of the trailer more than the other, you get the idea...

A set of 4 Goodyear Endurance tires on the other hand has a combined capacity of 8,040lbs. 1,000lbs more than the marathons. They are also rated for higher road speeds. And you can stay with a 14" rim and bump up to a ST215/75R14 and they are 8,800lbs. Better tires too (load range D vs C for the Marathons). My capacity is still 7,000lbs total, but the tires are no where near the weakest link now (I have Endurance).

Good tires with decent extra capacity that are properly inflated will treat you right.

Don't know what trailer you have, so your tires may be a different size/rating. But the concept will apply just the same. Endurance are pretty good tires.

You didn't give any details to assist in the discussion. Many folks have had trouble with their tires. Few gave info to give any indication of the issue.

How much does your trailer weigh when ready for camping or what is the trailer GVW?
What is the weight rating for the existing tires?
When were the tires made? (There is a code on the tire showing when it was made)

If your tires are less than a year old, and you have a 20% or more cushion between the tire rating and your actual weight, you will probably get a lot of mileage out of the existing tires. I have a nearly 30% margin on mine. I have 20k+ miles on the tires and only one problem with them - I picked up a nail in West Virginia - new tires won't prevent punctures.
I use my observation cam all the time. I can see my DW when she moves out of mirror sight when parking or pre-trip checkouts. I can clearly see when I can merge back into a lane after passing someone. I can tell if some chuckle head in a small car is too close to the back of my trailer (I have a definite blind spot even with tow mirrors).

FWIW, I read a thread about a week ago about a Furion competitor. Forget the name at the moment. As I recall, it costs less and has capability to record - nice to have a record if someone hits you. I may be upgrading...

So, it depends on what you have... You can dump a set of tires that MAY be perfectly capable on your trailer, or you MAY really be better off with new ones.

Based on my personal experience, Camera.
I've owned a new HTT for 10 years and a new TT for the past 3 years.
Never had an issue with Chinese tires with either trailer.

Appears you are taking a vote so thought I would provide one. Camera, our original tires are doing just fine. 2017 Rockwood 8289WS fifth wheel. No plans to get rid of them up to this point.

Tires. If you can't go anywhere with bad tires....you won't need a camera.

Believe this is the camera system that SailorSam referring to;

https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07GKXPK...v_ov_lig_dp_it

At least this is the camera I will be getting when camper is delivered.

As for the question depends on your risk aversion? Kept my factory tires for 4 seasons before I replaced them and had close to 10,000 miles on them but I was no where near their upper limit on weight carrying for the tires.

X2.....My 2016 Rockwood 2703 came with Constancy Tires never had any issues with them. I completed one cross country trip and racked up about 7K miles on them with no issues

Sam threw in a good point. If your current tires *DO* have sufficient cushion between their rating and your load, then there may not be a reason to change them out.

What year and model unit do you have and what tires are on the trailer now (brand and size)? It was not in your original post or your profile/signature. That would give some extra info to help us on the best recommendation.

Also the Haloview cameras on Amazon seem to be very popular and there are a number of discussions of them in the forum. I don't have one, but I'm considering one for my trailer (which is not prepped for a camera so I have to run power either way).
