Question Gray tank overflow

I recently purchased my 2010 Rockwood 8317SS Signature Ultralite, hence I'm new to this forum. My question is regarding the overflow for the gray water holding tank. Recently I did not keep track of my tank levels and my gray tank overflowed witht he overflow coming from the belly of the unit. Now my last TT backed up into the tub and I know that most units still do. THis doesn't seem right...FIRST any "waste" water should be contained for proper disposal; SECOND why would FR have the tank overflow from the top of the tank and drain thought the belly and get the insulation wet? This makes no sense.

Thoughts???

Brian

I'd agree...if the tank gets too full, you'll see it in the shower stall. I'd suspect that you may have a leak where the drain shower/wash basin drain connects into the gray water tank. It may only leak if the water level gets that high in the tank.

All tanks are vented. Water overflows at the lowest point. I am surprised that the overflow was at a vent and not the tub. Was the tub stopper installed?

All tanks are vented, agree. Where are they vented? Black will always be vented to the roof. Our gray tank is vented under the bathroom cabinet, much higher then the shower stall. If your shower/tub did not overflow, I would suspect a leak in the plumbing for the gray water system. Guess you'll have to pull the belly and inspect, unless it is under warranty and you can get the dealer to do it.

Times four. You have a trap plugged up with something. The overflow should never come out the vent.

There have been instances of tanks where the vent pipe wasn't sealed to the tank body and they would overflow around the vent pipe when over filled.

Thanks all...back to the dealer it goes...good thing it's under warranty still. I'll also have them check the converter since my battery isn't charging, and the support arms on the awning are not seating properly when it gets rewound...Gggggrrrrrrr. Don't know what's worse having a boat or an RV always something new to be fixed

Media Camping Center is a Flagstaff dealer. Its the same coach though so maybe they could help you. PA RV Dealer | Pennsylvania RV Dealer in Hatfield, PA - Media Camping Center RV is a Fleetwood RV, Forest River RV, and Outback RV Dealer

Not a huge fan of their service department, but they are the only game in (my) town and do an OK job.

I just got off the phone with Anne at Media's Warranty department and was told there was a "house cleaning" in their maintenance area. I was assured things are much better now and I was quite pleased with Anne's response to my warranty issue communication.

Brian,
I am wondering why you mentioned these 3 dealers??? Is there a problem with them??

I ask because I am considering buying a used Rockwood 2604 from Driftwood??

I went the boat route in the past, and so far the TT has been a much better investment $$ wise.

toshu...we bought the our Rockwood while we were on vacation and traded in our Montana. The deal we got was fantastic hence the reason for the purchase and overall we are very happy with the Rockwood. As far as the pre-delivery prep - I think Driftwood could have done a better job. Maybe they took advantage of the fact that we were from PA and would never come back...possible.

I now have all of my service work completed at Shady Maple RV and I could ask for any better plus they're 7 miles from my house.

If your asking if I would buy from Driftwood again I would flat out say NO.

By the way Shady Maple RV fixed every issue that came about including the tub which was screwed up at the factory and every fitting had to be re-fit and cemented.

Can't speak about Shady Maple RV but at the top of the hill is Shady Maple Smorgasbord. It is the Taj Mahal of Smorgasbords. We do dinner there while camping in the area at least one night. It's not cheap but it's excellent.

Smorgasbord
